IKerensky -> Suggestion for improvement/next game: The Saves (12/20/2004 12:39:16 AM)

Hi,

It could very interesting if Allied and Japanese orders were separated in 2 different files that are consolidated at the moment of generating the combat report.

Advantages:

- You can save your first turn orders as Allied and Japanese thus really speed up beginning a new game ( especially for allied ).
- You can enter your orders at the same time as your opponent, basically dividing by 2 the time needed to play the game, wich is important for GC...
- You can have a server host the game and auto run the turn computation when it got the 2 (or 3 4 5 6 for multi play ) files.

Just my 2cts, but it could be valuable...

Complete rewrite of the game engine to do that. Better luck next lifetime. [:(]

Well, this suggestipon was also for next games but...

I have to disagree with you Frag.

You can do this WITHOUT rewriting the game engine at all, or perhaps just 1 line or 2.

You just have to add another plug-in or additional little application that can be launched from the save menu by example and wich ask for the name of the 2 files you want to concatenate, hit the concatenate button then TADAM you got a save file compatible with standard game that you use as the next turn.

The only thing to add is:
- a way to concatenate an Allied save file and a Japanese save file.
- a possibility for an Allied player to enter his order and save it to a file with no Japanese orders entered yet.
[edit: this possibility seems to already exist as AI Japanese look really like computing his turn after US player... ]

All in all 2 pretty easy things to do and wich wont change a line to the game engine, all is in the way save games are encrypted/compressed/organised.

You know what : if save files weren't in crypted mode I can bet you this kind of small applet would already have been done.

Well then, feel free to tell 2by3 how to do this without rewriting the game [:D]
