drstat -> Relationship Between Pilots and Leaders? (12/22/2004 2:34:25 AM)

I've been creating a personal mod using Scenario 15, v. 1.40, as a base and it strikes me that in those cases where a pilot is also a leader, the link between the two doesn't seem to be very clean. Example #1: During a game, if a pilot in a unit also leads that unit and you replace the leader or transfer him to another unit, his "pilot" version seems to stay behind in the original unit. Has anyone else noticed this? Example #2: It seems that a pilot can't be assigned too high a rank. A quick example is Sanders, H.L. (2310 in pilot list; 15814 in leader list) from the 51st FG (1471). In the stock Scenario 15 DB, he's a colonel both in the pilot list and in the leader list. On Turn #1, he's shown as the leader of this unit on the Air Unit Info Screen, but his rank is given as 1st Lt! Click on "PILOTS", and he's a 1st Lt. there too. When I mod the DB, remove the pilot-to-leader "link" for him, start the game over, and look at the Air Unit Info Screen again, he's now correctly listed as a colonel; however, when you click on "PILOTS", he's still a 1st Lt.! It's as if colonel is too high a rank for a pilot?? Example #3: Take Boyington, G. (260 in pilot list; 16304 in leader list) from the AVG (1071). In the stock Scenario 15 DB, he's a 1st Lt. in the pilot list and a major in the leader list (with a much later arrival date). On turn #1, if you click on "PILOTS" on the Air Unit Info Screen for the AVG (where he's supposed to be a 1st Lt.), he's displayed with his later rank of major!! When I mod the DB, remove the pilot-to-leader "link", start the game over, and click on "PILOTS" on the Air Unit Info Screen for the AVG again, he's now listed as a captain!! I always play as Allied, so I don't know if a similar thing happens for the Japanese? This seems like a bug, as I would hope that when you move leaders who are pilots around, their "pilot" version goes with them (and that they maintain the correct rank). Thoughts?
