ORIGINAL: FlashfyreSP Talonsoft's "East Front", "West Front", and "Rising Sun" were all isometric AND hex-based. Don't forget Matrix Game's Titans of Steel game. The problem is that most "wargamers" are either 2D fanatics or 3D ones. If you make a game "in between" you really end up just making no one happy. An isometric game is not going to preserve that "boardgame look" that some love. Nor is the interface likely to be quite as easy as most strickly 2D top-down games are. And the graphics are still going to look "crappy" compared to a 3D game. So I'm not sure what the advantages would really be other than an attempt to make a sequel look different/improved without having to go full 3D. Me, personally, I'm still trying to figure out why so many think terrain made of still too few texture filled triangles looks better than some of the highly detailed maps found in 2D games, etc.
