rekab -> CDR.V.Andrews IJN (1/13/2005 5:22:52 AM)

My PBEM game has been ruined by the above officer being in command of the Akagi, where did he come from and what happened to my IJN Officer?

When my CV TF limped back to port I moved him to the pool, his stats as follows: CDR. V ANDREWS L = 42, I = 41 Best qualified as a STAFF OFFICER. (No CV or Surface, a Staff Officer!)

In PBEM my ships AAA ammo is zeroed when attacked by FBs, IJN subs do nothing except get sunk, US subs sink ships without fear of IJN attack via ASW or DD TF's on anti-sub, the US forces ALWAYS hit the IJN Capitol Ships in the TF whilst IJN pilots go after anything but the CV's, in Surface Combat the IJN Ships do not attack the US CV in the enemy TF. When Ships are under repair get bombed it's always the IJN CV that takes the hits.

Some of the thing you say have sense:

In PBEM my ships AAA ammo is zeroed when attacked by FBs
Sometimes ships fire AA weapons but they miss, so you donīt see the results. Look at the AA value of the ships. DD with 72 AA value are almost useless against FB.

IJN subs do nothing except get sunk
Be very careful with IJN subs. Against convoys with DD they are quite vulnerable. Use your Emilys and Mavis to spot convoys. Then choose the ones with poor escorts and try to surprise them.

US subs sink ships without fear of IJN attack via ASW or DD TF's on anti-sub
This is true. But if you put a great effort, you can also sink US subs. Use ASW patrols with 6 or 7 DD or PC and send them where your ASW planes have spotted them. In my game against Timtom, Iīve sunk 5 subs in 2 moths. Not bad

the US forces ALWAYS hit the IJN Capitol Ships in the TF whilst IJN pilots go after anything but the CV's
Yes, this happens many times. US CVs usually launch uncoordinated attacks while the IJ CVs, massive air raids. IJN pilots attack BB, DD and CA. No way to cahnge this!. Put a BB with your CVs. They usually attract some US bombers.

IJN Ships do not attack the US CV in the enemy TF.
This is very difficult to archive!

Thanks for the reply Toraq,

I was very miffed to see my CV's acting like 'Aunt Sally's', suffering 3 attacks without response due to the above CDR. Andrews suddenly taking charge of the TF.

With regard to AAA ammo and PBEM games, I find 'it's beyond my ken' that the IJN would spend money and years building a BB which has only AAA ammo for 1 day of fighting against FB's, when in action 1000's of miles from it's home port. In Board games there may be a reduction in Main Weapon ammo, to stop BB's shooting up everything but AAA ammo never!!!!!! Planes will always get through, unless fighting uprated US Navy TF's[:-]

Vulnerable, you don't say!!!!!: In UV my IJN sub surfaced to take on a single AP and got SUNK for its trouble, with AP's like this and the above the game still claims to be Historically Correct. (Try Combat Missions if you want Historically Correct)

An IJN Suface TF (Night) attacked and sunk some ships in a US TF but did not at anytime Fire on the US CV that was present. Would the US Player be happy if their Surface TF's did the same? (I still have the saved game)
Guess what the CV did next Air Phase? Its a pity the IJN TF could not work that one out!

As an old 'Flat Top' fan I like the CV vs CV battles (exc CDR Andrews popping in).
