afspret -> auto convoy off, but 1 formed anyway (1/14/2005 8:09:08 AM)

I staged a small raid Nauru from three subs units from 2nd Marine Para and pulled them off several turns later after capturing the base. Prior to pulling them out I was checking on convoys at SF when I found one that contained an AO and two tankers which I don't remember forming. A closer check showed that the convoy was under computer control and its destination was Nauru. I double checked that auto convoy was off, put it back under human control, but changed its destination to Johnston Island (which needed fuel anyway). Several turns after it sailed I found that it was once again back under computer control and headed for Nauru[:@]! I changed it again and after 4 turns its still under my control.

If I hadn't checked I would have lost these three unescorted ships because the computer planned route was going to take the convoy between the Gilbert and Marshall Islands.

I assume NONE of the Zones were under computer-control.

Hi, And Nauru is not under computer control? And no ships are assigned to be selected by Auto systems?

The only zone under computer control is Russia. Nauru is also the first enemy base I captured, are captured bases automatically be under computer control? I can't check now 'cause I'm at work.

Forgot this, I've checked a couple of times and as far as I can tell there is nothing on auto.

THAT must be it!

When you abandoned Nauru, the Russians claimed it and then asked for aid!!

IIRC, there seems to be a problem where the AI will take control of a unit if any ZONE is under its control.
This seems to happen to the occasional unit outside the AI-controlled zone.
It is though the unit passes through a worm-hole and AI grabs it.[&:]

I was having problems with TFs between OZ and NG just switching to computer control ever when I did not have SW under computer control.

Yeah, I've seent his too. No Zones are under computer control, but I do have some auto convoys. But they're listed as auto convoys. Every now and then I'll run across a transport TF listed under computer control.

This has nothing to do with auto convoy, and I have on just gotten through the tutorial, but was pleased to see mention of JI in the game. If you hadn't heard (and there is no reason why you should have), Johnston Island is being "returned to nature" after many years of holding about 6 percent of the US chemical weapons stockpile, destroying said munitions, and environmentally cleaning up the atoll. The chemical weapons part was easy, it was the Agent Orange residue and plutonium in the atoll that was hard to clean up.

Maintaining the seawalls was expensive, and the AF and DTRA didn't need the island anymore for missile defense or other missions. PACOM almost kept it open as an emergency air base, but decided against it. I look forward to "returning" to JI in the game... [;)]

It has happened twice again! I've checked the auto convoy screen and even though there are about 100 ships anchored at SF none are shown as being in the pool. I clicked also on the remove ships button just to make sure, but even after doing that, the second convoy formed anyway.
I have not had this problem at Karachi, even though there are several ships anchored there.

I thought just occured to me, could the number of ships be the problem? I've got about 100 in SF and only 5 in Karachi.
