Tankerace -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 8:11:04 AM)

King George V class battleships with all the added AAA, I'd wager its KGV herself after deployment to the Pacific in 1945.

Looks quite different than the first KGV class battleships (The ones built in 1912).

afspret -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 8:11:56 AM)

RN King George V Battlewagon, although which one I don't know.

Tiornu -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 8:47:21 AM)

I believe DoY was like her two laters sisters in being completed with additional splinter protection that was installed after the 15in submarining shell hit PoW in Denmark Strait.

grossmetzger -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 9:42:45 AM)

a 1944 pic of hms anson?

Tiornu -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 10:03:16 AM)

No, it is indeed DoY, August 1945.

grossmetzger -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 10:23:03 AM)

i thought they were camouflaged at the end of the war, and in 44 doy was member of the home-fleet.
my mistake...

Tiornu -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 11:03:10 AM)

Unfortunately, I don't know diddly about camo.

django -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 5:43:53 PM)

I guess it is "Howe"

Tankerace -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 8:58:07 PM)

In '42-early 45 they were camoed, but in deployment to the PTO they were painted like their US counterparts, usually battleship or haze grey and navy blue in a non camo pattern.

Hornblower -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/20/2005 9:29:59 PM)

Duke of York...@'45

Brady -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 7:17:07 AM)

HMS Duke of York, it is:)

Tankerace -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 7:30:16 AM)

That's it, shes the first boat going down when I get Silent Hunter III.

Tiornu -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 7:39:34 AM)

The KGVs had the shallowest TDS of any modern battleship.

Tankerace -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 7:40:22 AM)

Sweet, that means I won't have to use all 4 bow tubes.... well, maybe, my manual TDC is rusty.

Brady -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 8:44:27 AM)

Whats the ETA on Silient Hunter III anyway?

Tankerace -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 8:46:33 AM)

It was Febuary 25th, but now its March 17th.

Radzy -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 9:47:40 AM)

Hope the campaign will be dynamic, like it was in good ol' Aces of The Deep or Silent Service 1&2 (war patrols etc.) . The way they did campaign in SH2 was a real crap, as I couldn't get further in the game without finishing mission when I had to shadow Allied convoy enroute to England, which I couldn't get past for unknown reason...

Regards,
Radzy

Tankerace -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 9:50:22 AM)

Earlier last year they were gonna do a basic SH2 repeat campaign, and thanks to the lobbying of Subsim.com Ubi postponed it to create an entirely new, dynamic campaign. I hated SH2's campaign with a passion.

Odin -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 9:59:11 AM)

The campaign mode in SH2 was complete crap, like every campaign mode today in games.[:@]

I can not understand that since Falcon 4, which had a very good dynamical environment, these scripted-style missions began to take overhand. Look at Lock on, good game...but simply no motivation to play it longer.[:@]

From submarine games, the best one in my eyes was Silent Hunter 1.[&o]

Tankerace -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 10:02:28 AM)

I love Silent Hunter I. In fact, its the only subsim I still play. SH2 was good until you went to replay it. I can't get into CAOD anymore. SH1 there, with its realism, dynamic campaigns, and awsome manual TDC are always there.

So did I[:)]. It is good to hear they gonna make it in the way which will be more playable. I only hope they won't do that in Pacific Fighters' way and ships won't be going aground like planes in PF[:D].

By the way, have You heard any rumours about remake of Destroyer? The first game was a total crap, but it still was the first 'tactical' ship simulation game since Task Force 1942 [:)].

Radzy

skrewball -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/21/2005 11:15:31 AM)

TF 1942! Now that was a game! Nothing better then watching your shells impact on those pesty US Cruisers! It's amazing that with all the advanced technology we have today, the gaming industry still has problems capturing the magic of those old games! SH, SS, Red Storm Rising, TF 1942, GNB (Buggy but still a great game!)

I have to disagree - see your torpedos hit, which you launched two minutes before - that's real satisfaction [:)]
I were actually looking for TF1942 when I came across PacWar and WitP [:D]

Yeah, that were times[:D]. You really were eating Your fingers desperately waiting for any sign of explosion blast on enemy ship[:)]. And ships illuminated by fires on other ships. When I for the first time met Mikawa's task group near Savo I really felt like I really was here (despite crappy VGA graphics)... Where is this video-game business going to?? The more power they have at their disposal the dumber games they do... Fortunately there are some maniacs which give us hope[8D].

Best regards,
Radzy

Hatamoto -> RE: Name This...(293) (1/23/2005 5:45:24 AM)

I absolutely agree, TF 1942 was great, well except for the enemy AI agressiveness after being beaten up one or two times. I had the japs always hiding in rabaul for the rest of the game with some BBs and CAs left after suffering two bigger defeats. But nontheless, it was one of the best games I ever played, thereīs nothing greater than watch your DD divīs full spread of long lances wreak havoc among the enemy battle line. so much detail packed into a game that needs only a small piece of todays hardware resources..., imagine what could be done with todays possibilities TF 1942 with halo graphics...;-)
