Flashpoint Germany Goes Gold
Cold War Strategy Game, Flashpoint Germany, Goes Gold!

Staten Island, NY, Jan 20th, 2005 - Matrix Games announced today that the tactical wargame Flashpoint Germany has officially “Gone Gold” and is set for release sometime next week. The game will be available both via CD and download from the Matrix Games website.

Flashpoint Germany takes you back to the height of the cold war where tensions run tighter than a clock-spring. This time the peace-talks have failed. The world as we know it stands on the brink of World War 3 as the two super powers of NATO and the Soviet Warsaw Pact square off in a modern tactical simulation of what could have been.

Take command as general of either side’s forces and employ tactics and strategies for modern warfare including air strikes, minefields, artilleries, chemical weapons, and of course, tactical nuclear warheads. With a complete database of accurate equipment and unit types, comprising over 170 different units, 195 platforms or vehicles, and 112 different weapons, Flashpoint Germany gives you the final say in how the Cold War could have ended.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said, “Flashpoint Germany takes tactical war gaming to a place rarely ventured to by game companies. The Cold War marked a 45 year period during which the smallest wrong step could have led to world-wide disaster. We are pleased to present this ‘what if’ scenario that puts the player in the role of a brigade or battalion commander with some of the deadliest conventional forces ever assembled.”

Flashpoint Germany spans 17 different scenarios and comes complete with a scenario editor, order of battle guide and equipment database. Additionally, players can play online, by e-mail, or against a competitive computer opponent. Each battle map is a detailed representation of the German landscape, representing the actual terrain that would have influenced battles throughout West Germany.

Gee, we are finally going to move this forum from the "Coming soon and in development..." to the "New releases" of the forums lists. This is something of a dream come true for me and I'd really like to thank all the people that helped me get it there. It felt like the labors of Sisyphus at times, but the encouragement of the posters in the general forum, the playtesters and the key people in Matrix combined to keep me at it. It was teamwork that delivered the goods and I am very grateful to everyone that helped.

Cheers all, Rob.

Well done Rob.

As a fellow programmer (not game programming, though) I say congratulations. I know what it's like to see your product finally go live.

Well done. Great product and, as I've said before, I hope you reap the benefits.

I have been following this since the very first announcement of the game. And I am looking forward to play this game.
I would like to congratulate you, Robert, for finishing this. From the forum posts over the years I could discern that there were highs and lows, but you kept at it and finished it. Being a programmer myself I know how hard this sometimes can be, when bug after bug shows up. But what you did deserves a lot of admiration! You can be very proud of what you have done!

Cheers
Oliver

Thank you D_ploy, JudgeDredd, U2 and derf for your kind words. I think the Matrix community is darn near unique in the way it supports its developers and fosters an atmosphere that encourages the production of these games.

Thanks, Rob.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

This forum has moved up into the New Releases section at long last.

Happy days are here, Rob

Yes, congratulations. I tried to teach myself programming so I could design wargames but life is just too busy so I dropped the idea and try and follow smaller game programmers and applaud all the effort.

I downloaded the game and played the first scenario for a bit here at work (shhhhh) and like what I experienced...can't wait to spend time with it tonight.

<Laughing> It seems perfectly appropriate to me to try it at work since most of the game was written while I was ostensibly at work! Well, actually we were in maintenance mode between projects and I was bored stiff babysitting the server room. As long as I was there physically they didn't seem to care what I was really doing with my time. That ended eventually but it was fun while it lasted and it sure sped up development back there at the beginning....

I'm at 'work' right now come to think of it. The office telephone switch is being replaced and someone has to keep walking in to the server room to type in the domain administrator password so that they can restore the backup and configure it all in. Everyone thinks I'm busy on the new project but I'm just lurking here until I can go home.

Cheers, Rob.
