It beats Panzer General. (although I miss some of the strategic aspects of Panzer General)

Its incredibly complex (which I love), im still learning new things about the game every day. Even though I dont know everything about it, I dont gimp myself in the process, there are just different ways of executing an attack, sometimes more efficient, sometimes not.

Is there anyway to expand the game into the *HUGE realm*? I mean, a map 500 times the size, 50 times the amount of units, a little smarter AI, not AI AI too smart just a little smarter, designating command over to AI only intervening when your interested in a little area of the map. Giving waypoints and attractors to groups of units and watching it all work together. Of course 50 times the units, you would want the animations of shooting to go faster hehe. But with bigger maps, you can add airfields and some strategic aspects instead of being a pure tactical game. We have the computer memory to handle it dont we?

And a little better graphics would be nice, not "Empire Earth" graphics, thats not needed, just a little better. Its hard to see the small flashing yellow crosses over the units which shows which formation theyre in. The pure top-down view is pretty bad, a little viewing angle would be ok.

RTS games are overrated, that or they were made wrong. But RTS just misses something critical that SPWaW discovered. [:)]

I've spent thousands of dollars looking for a great game I can really get into, and finally come across one that is free *sigh*.

I think we can officially add Buggsy into the ranks of SPWAW addicts now. [:D]

Glad your having fun with it...ALOT of people have put unknown amounts of time into this game to get it where it is now....If you have not yet gotten the "mega-campains"...they are well worth the money...and also you can get into the play by e-mail games...or direct IP connection play human to human...
Yea...your gonna lose alot of time here....enjoy...
Take care,

Buggsy,

Just as a matter of interest, how did you find out about the game?

Cheers!

Ok, here's a question for you: what's the longest single battle or scenario you've ever fought? I've spent eight hours or more on a single game, but I'm a glutton for punishment--I set fast artillery OFF. A turn is supposed to represent "a few minutes", whatever that means, but single turns can last 10-20 minutes or more if you have a series of firefights with op fire and/or the artillery/mortar duels.

If you play a long campaign, one battle a day, it could last over three weeks. Mega Campaigns are something else--these can take months to complete.

I think I read somewhere that someone played a Lost Victories campaign for a year or more.

SPWaW as an addiction? Nah--it's a way of life.

IBTyrone -> RE: This game rocks, it sucks away so much of my time. (1/21/2005 11:45:53 PM)

I've played one scenario for over a week by limiting myself to a turn a day. [sm=nono.gif]

I don't do this all the time, but I've had to do it several times in the past. The underlying rationale is that it is better to keep my feet wet in a battle a little every day than try and figure out where I was a week later.

Whether it is a little or a lot each day my SPWAW addiction can still annoy my wife at times.
[:-]

I've also stretched out user and long campaigns much longer than necessary for this reason. I own all four MCs and have yet to really get moving on any of them for the same reason.[sm=crazy.gif]

I'm still happily married 13 years later... [&o]

...so I must not be making her too mad.

It's tough finding that balance, though.

KG Erwin -> RE: This game rocks, it sucks away so much of my time. (1/22/2005 12:39:46 AM)

For me, the wife and I have different work schedules, so I still have to watch our daughter when the wife isn't here. The opponent move/op fire phase is the worst, because that requires uninterrupted attention. Yes, you can pause the game, BUT, I have seen some glitches in following battles if you do this too often.

The bugaboo is related to the CPU resources this game uses. Even in higher-powered PCs, this game sucks up resources. Mine tops out, and I have a 1.4 Ghz processor and 512Mb of RAM. The game gobbles it all up. It is a power hog, and that's just the way it is.

Anyway, my wife has gotten used to my addiction to the game, the forum, and my past involvement with the OOB teams and MCSE, this in addition to my involvement in other forums on different subjects.

This is pretty much the extent of my social life. I don't have any friends that I hang out with, as my old buddies have moved away and we no longer stay in contact. In other words, I was a perfect candidate to become further immersed in the wargaming world, as a researcher and writer. I'm no longer working on SPWaW development, but I'm still part of the gamer support network and continuing my research and (hopefully) writing more historical articles.

I've been lucky in the opportunities I've been given, and I'm not ready to rest on my few laurels. There's always something more than can be done.

The successor of SPWaW is a major investment in Matrix ' R&D assets, so you guys must be patient. I'm staying out of it, until a Pacific mod is offered. At that point, I'll volunteer some help.

Beats absolutely anything else I've played, and I've played a lot of them, Bugsy!

Remember, this is a tactical level game, smaller unit sizes than Panzer General. Now you get to be a captain or colonel and get "down and dirty" in the fight. Here you feel the loss of each man, each tank! Its personal. Its tough! And God! Is it fun!
