33Vyper -> Save Game Crash (1/24/2005 6:58:25 AM)

I am still having problems with the game crashing when I go to save. This only happend once I updated to v 1.4. I have tried using different slots, reloading the program, defraggin the hard drive. Nothin seems to work. Anyone with some other ideas? At least the game is saved before it crashes.....but it becomes a bit of pain in the ass when you have to restart everytime after you save. I have even got to the point of not saving every turn. I wait a week then save...crash..restart....play a week....save...crash.. you get the picture.

I hope in 1.5 this is fixed.

Mr.Frag -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/24/2005 7:20:36 AM)

You are saying the act of saving itself causes a crash?

When you save, do you see an hourglass version of the mouse or just a regular pointer while it is saving?

33Vyper -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/24/2005 7:24:23 AM)

Had to go check...never really noticed....the pointer turns into an hour glass. The crash occurs once I hit exit not when it is actually saving as I get a save of the game.

WhoCares -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/24/2005 11:22:18 AM)

It should already be known, at least I remember confirming the problem in a similar thread, early after 1.4 release. As you said, it happens sometimes after you saved the game and hit the Exit Button in the Save Game window. As the save is not corrupt, it is only a minor problem (except if you leave the Save window without saving because you remember that you wantad to give another order to one of your TFs...)

I get the same thing , again only after 1.40 . However as the CTD when exiting the information screen has disappeared I'm quite happy with the swap ! [:)]

33Vyper -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/25/2005 5:28:20 AM)

Mr. Frag

Just an update to what I said earlier. I have seen both crash. I went back and did it a few times just to be certain. Sometimes there is an hourglass but 3 out of the 4 times i tried it i got just a regular pointer when it was saving before it crashed. Could it be the mouse?

Iron Duke -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/25/2005 4:50:02 PM)

Hi,

I've had a crash just once from the save game screen and that was when i clicked the exit button after successfully saving , also since updating to 1.4 i've noticed the sound stuttering quite badly during every save procedure , which did not happen in earlier versions.

Can you pin down the location better of where you click ... the hourglass thing was the fix for the crashing problem on save ... you should not be seeing the non-hourglass version. (thats when you crash)

Tom Hunter -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/25/2005 6:12:31 PM)

I have the same problem from time to time. I will watch what happens when I save and report back, at your request I can save the file as well.

Mr.Frag -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/25/2005 6:42:11 PM)

A save is meaningless in this case, the location you clicked to get it to save without showing the hourglass is what I need info on or if it is the case, the order you did things on the save panel to make it not show the hourglass.

pasternakski -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/25/2005 9:13:54 PM)

I get these occasionally, too. It never happened before v. 1.40. I go to the save game screen, click on the slot where I want to save the game (I always save over a previous save), the hourglass comes up, the screen shows that the game has been saved, the cursor turns back into the usual arrow.

Then, I hit "exit." Most times, I'm back in the game. Once in awhile, the game crashes to a black screen (the music continues to play). After a minute or so, I get the "War in the Pacific executable has encountered a problem and needs to close. We have prepared a report to send to Microsoft" dialog box. I just close it, let the computer get back to the desktop with the "Play WitP" screen superimposed, and re-load the game. The save is always there. I can save several times before I get another crash.

Bradley7735 -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/25/2005 11:00:48 PM)

I now get save game crashes with 1.4 as well. I get them randomly from what I can tell. I get them by using the mouse to click on exit or by using the escape key.

But, I think I know what part of the problem is.

I haven't had a single crash with the save game IF I don't have ANY other program open. I have tried it for two days and haven't had any save game crashes. If I have another program open, I'll get crashes about 20% of the time (maybe a little less).

bc

edit: My crashes are exactly as Paternaski describes his.

ckk -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/28/2005 3:57:37 AM)

Mr Frag I just got a crash to black screen exactly as pasternaski described, as you know I'm a little slow, what do you need exactly to get this bug[&:]

msinfo32 so I can see everything running

(start -> run -> msinfo32 -> save -> email)

33Vyper -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/28/2005 11:19:37 PM)

There are two threads right now running about the same issue sort of. In the other thread:

"1. Save game crash bug:
Seems to happen on when you click on the exit button right after saving. It seems to happen more on a system that has a large number of saved files (60+) and the system is busy doing other things or needs a defrag. I bet this is a timming issue, the game is alowing you to click exit before the game is finish updating the save game file list. If you wait for the disk drive light to finish flashing (save finished) then click on exit, it won't crash." - quote from pad152

I have done this and I am not crashing now....though I will continue to test this out over the weekend.

mlees -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/29/2005 5:09:27 AM)

If you figure that this is the case for you, share that time info. I get bit by this bug too...

33Vyper -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/29/2005 10:15:01 PM)

I click on save....wait for the hourglass to stop the message to flash on screen. Then I count to 5....lol seems simple but it has been working. I played for hours last night and not one CTD. <knocking on wood> [:D]

33Vyper -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/31/2005 5:44:20 AM)

Okay...finally had a crash. But this one was a bit different. When it went to the save screen it did not list the top of the list, it started at save 12 or 13 which are slots I have never used. I went back up to the top of the list and saved in the regular slot. I use 5 slots and alternate them by day. I got the hourglass....waited then when I clicked exit it crashed.
I am however happy to report that it was the first crash in three days and many...many hours of happy game playing
[:D]

bgibs -> RE: Save Game Crash (1/31/2005 7:07:40 PM)

I have this problem also. It crashes when I exit the save game screen. So to recap I enter the save game screen, I select my game slot, I click save, I click exit after the hour glss goes away and crash.

ckk -> RE: Save Game Crash (2/1/2005 12:45:48 AM)

Mr Frag

Had another crash followed instructions

msinfo 32 headed your way

Mr.Frag -> RE: Save Game Crash (2/1/2005 2:22:42 AM)

You are the third crashing person who has that evil MusicMatch jutebox installed.

ckk -> RE: Save Game Crash (2/1/2005 3:09:13 AM)

May save you some time I have the MusicMatch jukebox also. I believe it's standard on Dell boxes.[;)]

ckk -> RE: Save Game Crash (2/1/2005 3:26:15 AM)

This was the 1st time I accessed it. I just got a message from Dell thanking me for registering it[&:][:@][:(]

Great, nothing like those factory canned images with the kitchen sink thrown in.

33Vyper -> RE: Save Game Crash (2/1/2005 7:15:50 AM)

I did not realize you wanted the MSInfo, have emailed mine to you as well. Hope it helps

gdpsnake -> RE: Save Game Crash (2/8/2005 1:23:47 AM)

I get the crash all the time. If you save a game and then hit 'exit' on the save game screen, the game will crash to the desktop.
It happens usually after 3 or 4 saves in a single game session. I looked at the save files and they DO appear to get larger with each save. I believe the saves 'grow' with each save in a session and then grow too big - crash. I have seen this before in the South Pacific campaign game by matrix. This was fixed in that game in a later build.
Oddly, upon loading the saved game which immediately preceded the crash, the file size is normal and you can go 3-4 more times on a save before a new crash.

bradfordkay -> RE: Save Game Crash (2/8/2005 10:22:53 AM)

Back in UV I learned to wait on making a save. After the game saves the screen will flicker once (this now occurs just after the hourglass quits) and you can then exit. I had gotten so used to this I have never experienced the save game crash.

gdpsnake -> RE: Save Game Crash (2/8/2005 5:29:47 PM)

Yes, I tried that too many times because of UV but I still get the crash. The save files do grow with each save.
