The older Laffey had a story to tell, too--trading broadsides with Hiei at tater-throwing range.

1st January 1942 I just sunk it off Port Moresby - 40+ shell hits from BBs, CAs and DDs. It was the last ship of a 3CA, 2DD TF that was caught there by a large bombardment TF of mine. I was glad to see it go as it looked a naty opponent.

Historical start, 1 year campaign on PBEM.

Me, the WITP destroyer: Le Triomphant. It's a big destroyer (13 vps) with great AA capability. In my campaign as Japan, I have not yet managed to hit it with anything, while in my campaign with the allies, it fought valiantly at Rabaul, and was one of the few ships there to avoid great damage (took only 13 sys damage!) It also helped to stop the japanese from taking Rabaul Early.

If they name one of the Arliegh Burke's the USS Laffey - it might be a good ship to take into action... or to stay away from depending on ones willingness to stand into harm's way.
