Well, WitP is such a fantastic and complex game that you can see incredible attacks or memorable events. So, please if you have time, try to write/post your particular fantastic moment/battle/air attack or so here.

Since I´m still more a UV player than a WitP one, I post one of my "things you wouldn´t believe" from my last UV game.

Japanese aircraft
F1M2 Pete x 6
E13A1 Jake x 7

Allied Ships
CV Hornet, Bomb hits 7, heavy damage

Yes, Hornet was heavy damaged (from a previous carrier battle) and retreating to a safe port. Since I could not risk my damaged carriers so close to his bases, I sent my AVs which attempted to inflict some damage to the Hornet. 60 Kg bombs did nothing but still was a beautiful attack!![:'(]

God must hate you. Even I do not have luck that bad.[:)]

mogami -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 5:17:58 AM)

Hi, IN UV Bosun sent a night ground attack of a few Jakes and killed 2000 Marines.
(There was a problem with night attacks and attacks at 100 feet)

von Murrin -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 5:18:36 AM)

Or love him, since those were his floaties.[:D]

I have nothing that even comes close to that, unless we count USS Sims torpedoing three (yes, three; 3) IJN subs on three successive escort missions. I've never, ever, ever torpedoed a sub before or since, in either UV or WITP.

mogami -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 5:20:30 AM)

Hi, I've had a few sunk by long lance when they tried night surface attacks. Skipper must have thought they were transports bet he was surprised. [X(]

von Murrin -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 5:33:40 AM)

What's so funny about it is the amount of sense it actually make if one were to use artistic license. The CO of Sims gets off a snapshot and kills one I type, then figures it's a pretty good way to kill subs on the surface, so tries it a few more times.[:D]

Napalm will do that, if it lands right...

Provided that the Japs HAD napalm (they didn't), that a Jake could carry a couple of
500 gallon converted drop tanks (it couldn't), and that the Marines were holding a
"Dress Parade" in ranks (in a combat zone?). The actual scientific term for the event
described above is "Bu11shit".

mlees -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 7:43:12 AM)

(I agree.)

Picture Hornet with her deck full of refueling aircraft, (and her radars broke), when out of the clouds a Jake wins the battle singlehanded (a la Midway).

(I misread the night attack example. I read it to say that a few Jakes and 2000 (IJN) Marines were killed.)[:)]

Relax. He said it was before those problems got fixed.[;)]

Hi, I last encountered Bosun's late night low flying Jakes over Borneo a few minutes ago.
The Durch infantry there shot both of them down. This is WITP not UV version 1.00

Thread Hi-jack Warning!

From your AAR and from my own games, I have noticed that float planes like these are the most accurate bombers in the game. They never seem to miss! Sure , the little bombs don't do a lot of damage. But it sure would be nice if they missed once in a while. I think this might be a bug..........

mogami -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 8:51:31 AM)

Hi, Mine miss, Bosun's miss. The ones in the 3x PBEM miss.

von Murrin -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 9:22:45 AM)

I've done that, too. Fun, isn't it?

By the way, there's a button juuuust left of the "A" on your keyboard.[:'(]

mlees -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 9:28:24 AM)

He knows. That's why he always turns it "on".

Grotius -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 5:13:55 PM)

I don't have anything as dramatic as the example given by the original poster. Still, in my little PBEM of Scenario 3 (Coral Sea) against Maikarant, I sank two of his CVs with submarines on the same day in two different hexes. Now, in each case, the CV was on its last legs, but it was still kind of a nifty coincidence that they both succumbed to submarines on the same day, miles apart.

toraq -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 8:30:36 PM)

This one is good...i´ve stolen from a UV post (Radzy). It is a total nightmare...Jap. surface fleet almost defeated. I can´t believe it!. I´m now looking for a naval engament where an Allied CL fired shots like a lion...Still looking for it.

""Kondo went down The Slot in desperate need of bombarding Henderson Field which was causing troubles in supplying the remaining Japanese forces on Guadalcanal. He got surprised on 4 kilo yards by my task force led by Normie Scott (he was eager to kick some Japanese asses after loosing 1CA and 2CLs few days earlier...). He crossed the T, got Japs with their pants down and here's result

Night Time Surface Combat, near Lunga at 38,40

Japanese Ships
BB Kongo, Shell hits 29, on fire, heavy damage
CA Atago, Shell hits 14, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
CA Maya, Shell hits 9, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
CA Myoko, Shell hits 5, on fire
CA Kinugasa, Shell hits 10, on fire, heavy damage
CL Sendai, Shell hits 9, on fire, heavy damage
DD Oyashio, Shell hits 1
DD Hayashio, Shell hits 3, on fire
DD Amatsukaze, Shell hits 3, on fire
DD Hagikaze, Shell hits 2, on fire
DD Tanikaze, Shell hits 4, on fire, heavy damage
DD Asashio, Shell hits 1
DD Suzukaze, Shell hits 3, on fire
DD Inazuma, Shell hits 6, on fire, heavy damage
DD Harukaze, Shell hits 4, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
CA Indianapolis
CA Louisville
CA Canberra, Shell hits 2, on fire
CL Hobart, Shell hits 3
CL Phoenix
CL Honolulu
DD Swanson
DD Wilkes, Shell hits 1
DD Gwin, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Stockton
DD Sims, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DD O'Brien, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Helm
DD Mugford
DD Patterson
DD Conyngham

Effect: 3CAs, CL sunk. BB and 3DDs finished next day by planes. No losses on US side (Sims drifted to Tulagi ). It is of course lucky, full suprise engagement, but I've got few more in which heavier equipped enemy forces had bad luck. Few times my TF was creamed by the enemy light forces also. ""

AmiralLaurent -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/4/2005 9:40:20 PM)

Back to UV times, seeing CL USS Montpellier sink in the same night almost alone 2 of my CAs and 3 DDs without any shell penetrating his armor, despite being fired at by 2 BBs (but missed). Date was July 1943 and IJN ships were bigger and 2 times more numerous than US one but all sunk ships were Japanese, not to speak of the cripples then sunk by Allied LBA.

And still in UV, but against the AI, I had one of my solitary DD meet at night an USN CV TF. He surprised them and put two torpedoes in Wasp and then opened the next surface action by putting a torpedo in Hornet. He was then sunk by the escorts (BBs, CAs and so on) but that was a successfull kamikaze charge (not intended at all, as I haven't seen his carriers before).

LargeSlowTarget -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/5/2005 12:16:12 AM)

Even farther back in PacWar times, enemy planes attacked a CV-TF and obtained just three hits - one torpedo into each of the three CVs present. And three times I had to watch the dreaded '*****', indicating fatal results. In my still-ongoing PacWar PBEM against strawbuk, I've lost many capital ships to single hits, see AAR. BAAAADDD luck...

timtom -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/5/2005 2:51:50 AM)

Gee Tony, refresh my memory about the fate of AV Kamikawa Maru, will ya [;)]

We also had some other neat moments, like a replay of both Savo Island and Tassafaronga - too bad I had to suffer as the USN in both cases...

been there had it done to me :)

toraq -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/5/2005 1:25:33 PM)

Oh yes, how could I forget this!?. One of my AVs was just attacking (alone) some AP near Australia (with poor results). Then a surface TF came close enough to launch this attack

Allied aircraft:
SOC-3 Seagull x 6:

Allied aircraft losses:
SOC-3 Seagull x 3 damaged

Japanese Ships:
AV Kimikawa Maru, Bomb hits 2, on fire
***100 Kg bombs***

The AV was so severely damaged that it, after a few turns, it sank!!!, together with its Jake aircraft!

rtrapasso -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/5/2005 4:43:03 PM)

I didn't see this but there was (and probably still is) a post on the UV site about a problem where one ship would keep firing on another (apparently stuck in a loop). Some CL opened up on the Yamato and sank it some time later (hours(?) in real time) after hitting Yamato something like 1200 times, with no shell ever penetrating her armor.

Freedom205 -> RE: I´ve seen things, you people wouldn´t believe (2/5/2005 5:25:28 PM)

Priceless, the best sarcasm is the kind that flys just under the radar.[&o]

I will now crawl back into my van.....down by the river
