Mike_w -> Logistics lesson (2/4/2005 1:47:27 AM)

Learned why "Amateurs talk tactics but professionals talk logistics" Playing NATO against a WP onslaught. I have a M1A1 armored company massed in the woodline overlooking a likely approach on my flank. Sure enough, a few Guards units arrived and an intense fight ensued. After the smoke settled, I patted myself on the back for having placed my units in such a great position. Meanwhile, a second armored guards unit hits me. I stopped laughing when I realized that my M1A1's weren't firing.[&:] A brief comm check revealed that they were "no-go" on ammo. All of them were out. My off the map arty was also out of ammo from that fight. I lost about 4 tanks before I could get enough arty support and a nearby platoon to hold the WP in place while my company retreated to rearm and refit. Had I been playing a human opponent, I would have likely lost the whole platoon as well as my flank. Not really any point here, just thought I would highlight what I think is one of the more interesting aspects of this game. (I've never played a grand tactical/strategic/operation wargame before.
