Hey everyone, hurry up and finish your Alexander campaigns - you'll need to be in top form when this is released!

Hail Caesar, Master of the World!
Matrix Games Signs Tin Soldiers: Julius Caesar, Releases New Screenshots!

Staten Island, NY, Feb 4th, 2005 - Matrix Games (www.matrixgames.com) announced today that they have signed Koios Works’ (www.koiosworks.com) latest title in the Tin Soldiers series, Julius Caesar. Using the same general play style of Tin Soldiers: Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar makes massive improvements to the graphical engine along with numerous game changes to correctly mimic the change in armies and army tactics for the time period.

David Heath, Director of Operations for Matrix Games said, “We’re very pleased to continue to bring this series to the fans of historic war games. We have high hopes for the Tin Soldiers series to become a dominant player in strategy gaming, both with fans of miniatures and with a larger audience who prefer easy-to-learn but difficult-to-master strategy games.”

Tin Soldiers: Julius Caesar brings a completely new 3D engine into the battle, allowing users to zoom in, out, and rotate the map for a better view of the battlefield. The artwork overhaul features over 100 different replicas of hand-painted miniatures, including the fearsome legions of Caesar himself. On the inside of the game the AI has been overhauled as well to support a variety of battle formations while the legions of Caesar have been expanded from the normal block of four units to a more powerful block of six. This allows you to replicate the power and strength the Roman legions possessed.

The campaign mode features two distinct campaigns that no longer occur in linear order. You must defeat the Gaelic campaign and the final showdown against the combined forces of Gaul at Alesia and then proceed to the Roman civil war, where you will conquer Rome itself. By keeping many of the aspects that made Tin Soldiers: Alexander the Great popular and improving it in many areas; Tin Soldiers: Julius Caesar will be appealing to both existing fans and newcomers alike.

It seems that there is no improvement in regards of the terrain?[&:]
Am I wrong?[&:]

wodin -> RE: Hail Julius Caesar, Master of the World! (2/4/2005 5:21:55 PM)

Now that look superb!!

A vast improvement in the visuals!

Also I'd rather fight with the Roman Legions. The setting has my imagination flowing.

I never bought the first but I will buy this game!

So is this the FULL battle of Alesia.
Would think it would take significant changes in engine to portray the battle properly ?

I think you could build an entire game around Alesia. The actual siege is far more immense as the earth works sourrounded the enemy by miles and miles.

This is what the battle of Alesia would look like if you were to project it into a board game. Its merely a slice of the battle, and we try to bring out the most fun aspects of that battle.

Not to say that this is going to be any small short battle. It is the largest more involved map in the game so far.

Just wait 'til you see the battle in Egypt!!!

Lucifuge -> RE: Hail Julius Caesar, Master of the World! (2/5/2005 12:20:20 AM)

Much much much much better looking then Alexander game, wanted to like the Alexander game sooo much but I ended up getting headaches staring at the terrain. A shame too cause the game rules/gameplay were perfect just headaches > playing a game. Look forward to this one :)

Avalon Hill did this more than 30 years ago. I have yet to see it outdone.

I have seen other screenshots at strategyinformer. They look splendid. I believe that there are a lot of surprises compared with Alexander. When will we know all the new features ?

sol_invictus -> RE: Hail Julius Caesar, Master of the World! (2/5/2005 5:17:39 AM)

Pasternakski, Caesar, Alesia was my first board game.[:)] Made a great three person game. I still have fond memories of all those units. Good God, was it so many years ago.[:(]

*Lava* -> RE: Hail Julius Caesar, Master of the World! (2/5/2005 11:54:03 AM)

Hi!

Wow, what a difference!

Excellent looking screens.

Will the players be able to mod the army uniforms and shields?

I assume so. You can mod the figures in Alex - just photograph elements of your own miniatures (or paint from scratch, I guess, for those with talent at such things - Koios used miniatures) from the right angles and scan them. I just don't think anybody has - the miniatures used were well painted and historically accurate, so why bother ?

There will be more variation in Caesar, so it would be a better bet.

Hentzau -> RE: Hail Julius Caesar, Master of the World! (2/6/2005 9:33:59 AM)

Sort of what I envisioned when I first read about Tin Soldiers. Looks wonderful! [:D]

GreenDestiny -> RE: Hail Julius Caesar, Master of the World! (2/6/2005 10:24:29 AM)

WOW.... It looks good.[:)]
Just wondering how many battles are you going to have in this one, and will It cover the Roman Civil War.

GreenDestiny -> RE: Hail Julius Caesar, Master of the World! (2/9/2005 11:22:59 PM)

Will someone please tell me if the battle of dyrrhachium, Pharsalus, Zela, Thapsus, and Munda is in the game.

All of those battles are part of the civil war, and they are included in the game. Other battles in the civil war also include Ilerda and Egypt.

Thank you..... I cannot wait for this game to come out.

BTW.. I also really like A:TS.... please keep on making theses excellent games.

Thorgrim -> RE: Hail Julius Caesar, Master of the World! (2/15/2005 9:40:01 PM)

Just a couple of misspelled words in the campaign maps:
Gergovia: "seige" should read "siege", and "assalted" should read "assaulted"
OoB: "Auxilary" should read "Auxiliary", (and why is Legio IX displayed before Legio VII?)

Looks very good!

Thanks for those catches. We had already caught those except for "seige".

BTW, Legio IX displays before Legio VII because it is sorted alphabetically in the order of battle screen. Kinda quirky, but a minor issue until we put more finishing touches on everything.
