Vaevictis_386 -> Ship Upgrades (2/10/2005 2:19:58 AM)

How do these occur? I read the manual, and disband ships that are past upgrade date in a port that has repair points, but they don't auto-upgrade. Am I missing something here?

Mr.Frag -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/10/2005 2:24:30 AM)

SYS damage needs to also be repaired

In other words, they won't upgrade until the ship's existing system damage is reduced to about 4 system damage points or less.

DrewMatrix -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/10/2005 3:00:35 AM)

1) sys damage <=4
2) in a port that has a shipyard (ie one that generates repair points
3) you need the upgrade parts!

That #3 may sound silly, but if you take about 3 CVs, 6 CAs and 15 DDs back to Pearl on a turn and they ALL need 40mm AAA (meaning you need hundreds of 40mm. Or all need some kind of radar or whatever) you may find you used up all your stocks of 40mm and need to wait a few days to make more before the rest of the ships can upgrade.

Oh yeah, and

4) the ship need to be on "extended warranty" You did buy the extended warranty when you bought the ship, didn't you? (number 4 is just kidding [;)])

Only if USN ... and only after they take the training wheels off the bottom [:D]

Ron Saueracker -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/10/2005 3:30:49 AM)

I'm not sure about needing 40mm etc for upgrades. Those are for LCUs I believe.

Correct Ron, Ship Upgrade equipment is free, the pool is for LCU equipment

byron13 -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/10/2005 8:39:26 PM)

Warranty? What warranty? I wasn't told about any warranty. How many political points does an extended warranty cost?

What I really need is collision insurance. Can I buy that? You know, insurance covering parts and labor for repair (or, preferably, complete replacement) of damage caused by accidental collision with torpedoes, 500k bombs, etc. I know I have the standard U.S. insurance on CV's and cruisers, but the 18-month replacement time is ridiculous. I'd like to buy an upgraded policy covering all ships and a shortened replacement time. Anyone know where I can buy this?

tsimmonds -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/10/2005 8:50:11 PM)

Sorry, in order to get collision insurance for your ships, you'll first have to sue your aviation support personnel.

DrewMatrix -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/10/2005 9:10:08 PM)

You know, during Beta they tried collision insurance. But the Mogami and Mikuma kept colliding near Midway driving up the premiums to the point where it just wasn't worth buying.

Re parts:

So you don't need to have ship parts in the pool? Hmm, then why do I have ships sitting and sitting awaiting refit in Pearl?

Lots of supply. Low Sys damage. _Lots_ of ships sitting there (I just docked 3 ACTFs). Is there a limit on how many ships can refit in one port in one turn?

Just got over the same prob in HK. Try reforming the units you want to upgrade into a TF, then disbanding them again. You didn't by chance auto-disband, did you?

I don't like the funereal tones with which you said that [;)]

Uh, I am going to go form them into TFs and then manually disband them now.

Let me know whether it works, it's just a suspicion.

Wise guy! [;)]

Frag said somewhere that the equipment pools don't affect ship upgrades. While I've never proved it by checking upgrades against the equipment pool, I believe it.

Reading your post carefully, you state that your ships are at "low" damage levels and that you recently "docked" three TFs. I believe you need 4 or fewer system damage points to upgrade. Also, I don't believe docked (as opposed to disbanded) ships upgrade. I've had several docked TFs hanging around the harbor waiting for higher priority ships to upgrade; I had to undock them because I think they were still eating up repair points - but they did not upgrade. Whether this is what you meant or not I don't know. Also make sure that they are set to actually upgrade; 1.4 gives you the option of turning auto-upgrade off, which you may have accidentally done. Don't know of any limit on the numbers that can upgrade at one time in one port (though you're looking at a longer time to get their system damage down to zero).

Barring all of that, I'd give Irrelevant's idea a try. As with people having trouble with a/c replacements and upgrades, doing something to the unit like moving it sometime seems to snap the computer out of its stupor and take notice.

SDF?

Secondary Distribution Frame?
Space Delimited Format?
SubDistribution Frame?
Standard Data Format?
Some dumb f##k?

EDIT: What just happened? I saw a one word message (SDF) and replied to it. Did you do the edit while i was composing the message??[&:][&:]

Gee, I don't know what you're talking about. [8|] You must be playing too much WitP!

Yeah, I drafted a long-a$$ response, but when I tried to send it, I got an error message that blah blah filters blah blah didn't allow me to post blah blah. I thought my office had put into effect the dreaded limit on sites we can surf. As a test, I logged in again, posted "sdf," and was surprised that it went. Not wanting to confuse people with sdf, which does stand for "Seniorofficers Disappearing Fast", I edited. Sorry.

DrewMatrix -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/11/2005 5:28:12 PM)

Manually disbanding didn't fix the stalled upgrades.

I reformed the non-upgrading ships into an ACTF, then disbanded. They still aren't upgrading (at Pearl). I have lots of supply. Several BBs have 3 or 4 sys damage, upgrade scheduled at various dates in 1942 and it is Feb 1943. But no upgrade.

Could the problem be the _total_ number of ships repairing/upgrading at Pearl? There are lots of DDs and other small ships upgrading there at the same time.

Ron Saueracker -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/11/2005 5:35:19 PM)

I'm not understanding the problem here. I have had an absolutely flawless experience with ship upgrades. Aside from them being a little on the quick side and instantaneaous regarding data changes, they are fine and as Mike likes to say, working as designed.

While this will slow the repair of the damage caused by the upgrade, it shouldn't interfere with the upgrade itself. Unless....perhaps there is a requirement that there actually be repair points present when it checks for the upgrade (which would presumably be after the other ships repair), and by then the points have all been sucked up by all the ships repairing there. Do you actually show any repair points accumulated at PH?

Twotribes -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/11/2005 5:40:44 PM)

I am not playing right now, but I had problems with upgrades when I did, took weeks for my carriers and BB to upgrade after a month or more getting them down to 4 damage or less.

cgilb03 -> RE: Ship Upgrades (2/11/2005 5:56:42 PM)

I'm not at home to look, but I seem to remember there being a toggle for turning upgrades on or off for the port. Could this be causing it ?

That would be news to me. I'd like to know if there is one. There is a toggle for ship classes, but I think Beezle's checked to make sure that each ship has "yes" selected.

It's got me stumped. Like Ron, I've never had a problem. If anything, the damned upgrades catch me by surprise sometimes when a whole class suddenly upgrades at once. Maybe there is some other limiting factor. Not that this is based on anything, but what about forming all damaged ships (other than two or three of the ones that won't upgrade) into a TF and send them off on a pleasure cruise away from the port for a week or two. See what happens when the other ships are out of the hex and, after a few turns, the repair points build up. (You'd want to make sure you saved your game first).

Where is Frag when you need him? Maybe you could send a turn to Frag and let him look at it. I'll gladly volunteer his time.

Ah, yes. The old "mail server is down" excuse. Well, have any ideas what the potential problem could be? Wait a minute. I'm not having the problem. Why should I care? Must be for love of the game and my fellow gamers . . .[sm=00001746.gif]
