Rohna -> Campaign 42A Scen 13 (2/22/2005 10:37:34 AM)

Is this scenario good for PBEM? Is it balanced for both sides?

Please give me your thoughts as I am considering it for PBEM.

Thanks

I think that it is ... each side has his KB and the planes are equals .. more or less .. [8|]
of course, and the troops and squadrons which were in the ABDA, USAFFE and Singapour zone aren't able anymore and that's a difficulty for the allied player ... beginning in december '41, some of these troops may escape by sub and the aircrafts may retreat ..
In fact, you'll see that he japanese player has some advantages .. troops ready to fight, squadrons full with new planes and good pilots, and the resources and oil storages are undammaged and things like that .. see with your pbem player ..

The entire war was grossly unbalanced, it doesn't mean it is not fun to play either side. Ask yourself why you are playing? To have fun or to win? If the answer is win, you better take the Allied side.

I like this scenario alot, because I believe its pretty balanced, both sides are pretty equal, it also reminds me alot of UV, and the campaign for the south pacific begins.

I like the scenerio because the the SRA is already taken care of......conquering that region is an adminitrative challenge for dis-functional types like me. [;)]

I look at it exactly opposite. Taking the SRA is the one chance you have to get ahead of the historical results. It gives Japan the edge, skipping it and starting after the expansion phase in the meat grinder phase shuts down a lot of options for Japan.

I like anything which nullifies the excessively generous first turn move bonus for Japan.

The first turn move bonus is only a problem with folks who abuse it. If you don't like the effects, simply use the historic first turn toggle and no one enters moves on turn 1. Never got why this is such a big deal. Is it that people can't agree to the starting options?

general billy -> RE: Campaign 42A Scen 13 (2/22/2005 6:39:27 PM)

But alot of people dont know that u can abuse the first turn after its too late [X(]
I be playing with house rules in my next and future games....

Speedysteve -> RE: Campaign 42A Scen 13 (2/22/2005 7:03:30 PM)

I personally think it's the most balanced at start game. I play PBEM vs Dadman at the mo. Both sides have stuff to play with at the start and have full complemements also.

Ah, but there is two sides that can screw up [:'(]

When playing Japan, you are praying for an Allied screw up early on that gives you the chance to make record gains.

Obviously should you screw up well, you lost the war anyways, just how much worse can you screw up then that? [:D]

Rohna -> RE: Campaign 42A Scen 13 (2/22/2005 10:56:23 PM)

cool thx everyone.

So the way I understand it is the scen is an acceptable balance as much as it can be, but the japs miss out on making some agressive advances by not starting on dec 8, and allies miss out on salvaging troops and a/c from the sra. Also, troops are fresh and ready for attack on japs side, but american reinforments are closer to being sent in.?

Does anybody think there is sufficient time to take oz for example, or any other significant base in the s-sw pac area, before the might of america kicks into high gear? Or would an offensive like that require it to be launched at an earlier date?

Thanks.

PS) I've never pbem so please tell me how people take advantage of the 1st turn. I am aware of the rule, but how, in it's worst case scenario, is it abused?

The move speed bonus for Japan's first turn can result in people racing deep into Allied territory if they so choose. Simple house rule to counter it ... be reasonable or we play scenario 16 instead [;)]

A good example is the japs rushing into DEI, and taking all the important undefended level 4 airfields and then sinking all ur ships in the area before u can move them out.
