Zeke -> How to chase enemy surface TF with my surface TF (2/22/2005 7:39:04 PM)

I saw it there, coming to me, but I just can't catch it, i tried to anticipate and block one of the hex, but it can always penetrate, leaves my TF idling behind without reaction. I have set reaction radius to 6....

any help? thx

What you are talking about is a mid ocean inteception. Doesn't happen.

The only way to intercept an enemy TF with your own surface TF (outside of a base hex), is if both of you end the turn in the same hex.

Even then, there's a good chance you won't fight each other (the chance to engage depends on the detection level, the type(s) of TFs involves, the TF leader ratings, and bunch of other stuff).

It's not easy, but it can be done. The only use I've found for this is, if you're trying to catch a convoy, you can split up your SC TF into single ships, and squat on every hex you think he'll END his turn on (not move thru). Problem is that now your SC TF is split up, and if your enemy has a SC TF, he's got a fair chance of landing his multi-ship TF on a hex with your single-ship TFs.

You don't have to end the turn in the same hex, just one of the two naval movement phases. It is usually easier to figure out where an enemy TF will be at the end of the first phase than at the end of the turn.

Do a search of this forum with "surface interception". This subject had been discussed ad nauseum. You have to guess and with experience it works rather well.
