Tankerace -> War Plan Orange wallpaper (3/5/2005 10:41:43 PM)

Was working on a Splash Screen, and I liked this version so much I turned it into an 800X600 wallpaper. Either right click and save as to download, or right click and set as desktop background to make it your wallpaper. Enjoy!

Gorgeous! [:D]

Hey thanks.

Oh, BTW, to round it out, you guys want one with a Japanese background?

Onime No Kyo -> RE: War Plan Orange wallpaper (3/6/2005 12:49:25 PM)

I think Dutchy (sorry, sp) wants one of De Zeven proudly steaming towards the junk heap. [:)] I can just picture the proud warship being escorted into harbor by the somewhat more heavily armored native canoes. [:)]

[sm=00000280.gif] Ya shouldn't have given me the idea...... Lets see what I can toss together (uh-oh) [:D]

For the Dutch fanboys out there:

(Sorry, this is the best large image I could find of any Dutch ship.)

Java?

Tankerace -> RE: War Plan Orange wallpaper #3 (3/7/2005 6:10:47 AM)

Yep. Well actually her sister Sumatra, but Java class. Taken near Pearl Harbor in 1927

I believe you are a battlewagon fanboy, so I feel I need to be a stick in the mud:

Did you notice the flattop in the background? Theres a monoplane on approach, too.

Tankerace -> RE: War Plan Orange wallpaper (3/7/2005 8:09:35 PM)

Yep. In the US pic its the Langley, and in the British its the Argus.

I chose those pics, because they are representative of the time in WPO. The Battleships (more numerous) at the head of the fleet, the aircraft carrier in support.

Really? I thought that the US BBs lost their @ss-ugly "laticework" masts very close to the war. In fact, I remember something about how some BBs at PH still had 'em.

Tankerace -> RE: War Plan Orange wallpaper (3/8/2005 5:28:30 AM)

It was actually kinda complicated.

The Floridas (Florida, Utah) lost their mainmast for a pole in 1925. None of the class would ever have a tripod.

The Wyomings (Wyoming, Arkansas) lost their main mast for a smaller tripod in 1925. It wouldn't be until 1942 that Arkansas received a tripod foremast, and 1944 for Wyoming (by then a TS) a tower foremast.

The New Yorks lost their cage masts for Tripods in 1925-1926.

The Nevadas and Pennsylvanias lost their cage masts between 1927-1929, being replaced by tripods.

The New Mexicos lost their cage masts around 1930-32, in favor of new tower masts.

The Tennessees and Colorados would remain virtually unchanged in their appearance until 1942.

If you look at different photos, especially of the late late '20s, you'll see Nevadas and Pennsylvanias in sleek new tripods, right next to the WWI looking New Mexicos, still very much the same as they had been in 1918.

So, with the time frame I chose for War Plan Orange, you will go from the 1922 extreme of fighting with no carriers, and battleships as they appeared in WWI, to the 1930 extreme a few carriers, new metal biplanes, and a fleet that is begining to look like that of World War II.

Onime No Kyo -> RE: War Plan Orange wallpaper (3/8/2005 8:19:32 AM)

So this pic would be dated around the early 30s sometime?

Tankerace -> RE: War Plan Orange wallpaper (3/8/2005 8:40:15 PM)

The first one is dated 1932. Technically after WPO, but the ships are in the same fits they would have been in in 1930.

The original photo is below.

ahem.....I believe there is wallpaper missing....and NO it is not the Canucks LOL

How about a nice JapFanboy WPO wall paper?

Tankerace -> RE: War Plan Orange wallpaper (3/9/2005 6:20:17 AM)

I'm working on it. Trying to find a good large size photo to use. Most Japanese photos of the time are rather small, it seems.

Tankerace -> War Plan Orange Wall paper 4 (3/17/2005 8:30:31 AM)

As requested, a War Plan Orange wallpaper, featuring the Japanese dreadnought Ise.
