romanovich -> Changes due to new version (1.5) (3/10/2005 12:24:57 AM)

Hi, this is an inquiry to the very knowledgeable, or Mr. Frag himself: in the new update to come out 3/31/05 (v1.5), the only changes will be to the game's mechanics. There will not be changes to the "official scenarios", right? So troops, ships, locations and economic parameters of certain locales will all remain unchanged, right?

I'm asking because I'd like to know if I could start prepping one of the official scenarios in anticipation of v1.5, or if the introduction thereof would make any prep-work moot, as it changes the scenario itself.

Thanks!

There are some changes to the scenario data base files in 1.5 that are REQUIRED for at least one of the new features to work with the 1.5 patch...

Like what?

(Just an example or two if you have 'em)

Is it really coming out then, or is that a random guess?

I don't think anyone has made a firm comment on when the patch is due. I think they're shooting for 3/31, but they haven't said that is a for sure date.

Allied dive bombers will have chances to use AP bombs. You need the OOB updates for this new feature to work. Not sure if you need OOB updates for any other new feature.

romanovich -> RE: Changes due to new version (1.5) (3/11/2005 12:58:31 AM)

AP bombs. AP bombs? What were those again? My mind works a bit slow today.

What do you mean I need OOB updates? Do I have to update the "official scenarios" separately with those or will they come with the v1.5 patch?

Tankerace -> RE: Changes due to new version (1.5) (3/11/2005 1:06:01 AM)

OOB updates, when you install the new patch it fixes the official scenarios Order of Battle. However, save games do not reflect this, and you must restart to get it to work. I.e., SBDs can use 1,000 lb Armor piercing bombs (used to penetrate thick armor on battleships), but as your saved game won't have them, it could cause headaches. Starting the game from scratch will alleviate all potential problems.

Sooo either restart or finish out a current pre-1.5 game
is required ?

One cannot continue to use a pre-1.5 game without problems?

How about adding a Max React for ASW TF's??

You should start a new game after a patch to have the full benifit of any new feature(s) and data changes but it is not required in most cases.

You can continue your current game however this one new feature will be unavailable in your game because you will not have the required data changes in your game file for it to operate.

The other new features will work Except for the new aircraft upgrades. In games against the AI you can use this new upgrade feature (it is backwards compatable, simply set a toggle in your options menu) but in PBEM (Not backwards compatable) games folks will have to start from 1.5 in order for it to be available.

How do you know all of this? Are you beta-testing the new v1.5?

How are you going to explain to my wife why I am holding my breath in front of the computer? Near future - is that in human or cosmological terms?

Oh no!

Why was this done?

I have been playing some email games for months and was waiting for this. I really don't want to restart these games and will miss this feature [:(] Once people have used this they won't want to go back. And just as with other features that can be considered gamey/ slightly unhistorical - e.g. Night bombing, Skip bombing etc. people can restrict themselves and apply house rules. Sadly this will mean that those of us who would not immeadiately push the envelope as far as it will go whatever the results won't get to use this new feature without sacrificing 6 months or so of play [:(]

pry -> RE: Changes due to new version (1.5) (3/15/2005 3:21:29 AM)

Sorry

PBEM settings are locked on the 1st turn, the aircraft upgrade is a toggle setting turned on or off when the japanese player sets the game options so you can't use it after the game has started..
