Gilligan -> Questions regarding US CVE entering in '43 (3/11/2005 2:24:51 AM)

Hey guys,

One of my campaign games is currently at mid Jan '43, and I am recieving soem CVE now. I've noticed two problems with a couple of them, and was wondering if anyone knew whats going on.

1) Three of my CVE enter the game with 48 AC onboard, with a max AC allowable at 28 or 30. I have a F4F squadron of 54 AC max (24 in squadron atm) and a squadron of Dauntless 54 max (24 currently). Now, I cant fly ops with that many, but if I transfer em to a base they ballon up to 50 ac. They are dividable, but at 3 groups of 18. So, I'm either stuck with a CVE using 18 ac or nothing. If I add another 18 I am over the 10% overcapacity rule.

Any ideas on this? Possible bug or OOB error?

2) One of my CVE has a group of Avengers with the pilot exp at 35 when it entered the game in Jan '43. Another OOB flaw?

Thanks in advance for any ideas/solutions.

These are replacement planes for your CV, CVL and some other CVE. get a task force with this ship near other carriers and when losses occur replacement will come from these squadrons.

I'm sorry I don't have the answer, but since I noticed this in the Marianas Campaign I thought I'd chime in that I'm curious about it also. I think the reason they balloon out to 50 (54, I'll bet) is because the fragments are parts of fighter wings (instead of squadrons or groups), and putting them at a base will prompt them to start drawing replacements if you have more than 50% of them assigned to a task (such as naval search). In the Marianas scenario, I swapped out all the Wildcat units from the carriers so I could make room for the Corsairs and divide that big group of Hellcats up so as to fit on the smaller flattops.

I'm sure there's a reason this is the way things are in the game; I'm just wondering what it is.

[Edit: madmickey posted while I was typing... that's something I hadn't thought of; I'll give it a try.]

The CVEs that arrive with the oversized squadrons are replenishment air group carriers.
The idea is to add them to Replenishment TFs and position them near you CVs. When needed, aircraft will transfer from the CVEs to the normal CV to bring those air groups on CV up to strength.
The CVEs will not perform Air Missions, but will automatically transfer aircraft to the CVs in range.

More can be found by searching on "replenishment ".
