In an expansion pack to the old Carrier Strike game (The great grand daddy of Witp) there was a scenario that had WW2 start in 1947.

Any thoughts of doing the same as an expansion after WPO is complete? It would be interesting to see how Jap jets fared if they were built in adequate numbers and flown by skilled pilots.

Not at this time, at least not by me anyway. After WPO is released, I'd like to expound on the concept with more scenarios, and maybe even more what-if stuff.

I had actually started on a 1953 the cold war goes hot in korea scenario. it started well, but i got boged down with simple things like how to add drop tank capacity for aircraft under the WITP game model.
I still like the idea very much but its a hell of a lot of work for something that will have a very limited appeal

still, if enough people are interested and even willing to assist with historical data , id continue with it

What I would really like to see is a mid to late 1930's version. SSI had two (one with and one without carriers) in Greatest Naval Battles 3 (good game BTW) I think that would make a cool mod.

I think one of the problems with a WPO 47 or anything really later than the mid 1930s is that the basis for the changes in the game have to do with getting the old battle wagons in. As you progress later and later in time...the changes would be more on the carrier and aircraft side of the game.

Can you imagine jet engined aircraft chasing after 1918 battle wagons? Would seem more like a great big turkey shoot.

I much prefer the idea of trying to do a 1904 Russo Japansese engagement and perhaps a nice WW1 Jutland style Mod
or even perhaps once Matrix gives up on the code looking at modders taking on a Med game

I hope Plan Orange is not the last add-on for Witp, it's the only way to keep support going.

I would like to see Witp full production add-on where we have full control over production for boths (Allies and Japan). Controling production would be a game in it's self.[;)]

Yes Yes YES !!

I remember back when this forum first started there was some discussion of the production model that would be employed. I often thought that they should have artillery factories...tank factories etc... etc... and that the Japanese player would have had to move raw materials from the SRA/DEI back to Japan.

I can understand however the desire of many to have a more simplified system....some threads have called this game Quartermaster of the Pacific already...but ya know what....to bad. I want more. I hate the production system right now. You never know what you are building...whether you have enough HI/OIL etc.. to get the damn factories to produce etc. It is like you need a magic 8 ball just to know what is going on.

God I should start smoking again...I just go on and on with this rant.

I also wanted to see more control over the ship yards. You should be able to set out production, especially on the Japanese side. You want to scrap the Yamato battlewagons...go ahead, you can then spend the resources building some Shokaku class CVs in 3 or 4 years. I know the 'historical side' will be aghast with me saying this. But this is both a game and a simulation....you want reality..then change nothing....you want to play the 'what if game' then you can.

You can have your cake and eat it too [;)]

No, the old battlewagons one would expect to have either been mothballed or converted, a 1947 or later start might have instead upgraded battlewagons and some Missori types in it, A Korean scenario would need some tinkering, you might neeed a re-write of much code as a 1953 korean thing would require USA facing off USSR
you could say Japan occupied still by USA and so a conflict would be USA vs USSR and also Communist China forces.

Present engine couldn't handle it, not with USSR set to activite as an allie..

Pre-41 would be easier likely to implement.

You would have to make the OOB from scratch since many of the available ships would not have been produced had it not been for the war. I think this was what was done in the '47 variant of Carrier Strike.

I guess you would have to tell the computer the '47 is really '41 and modify from there.

Would be cool to see jet vs jet combat between CV TFs. Maybe a jet attack on Pearl could still start the war.

I agree with you about many of the ships not being available due to the war not having happened yet............ but the same principle applies to jets. Without the tremendous boost in R&D the war generated we likely wouldn't have seen jets for several more years yet.
