rhodopsine -> You wanted AAR, here's AAR... (3/14/2005 12:14:29 AM)

Ok... Let's try to please you guys a little and here's some AAR... Remember, though that the AI is still very simple (As in lots of A and barely any I [:D]). Sorry if some images are a little fuzzy as I had to resize them to fit the download limit.

rhodopsine -> January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 12:26:08 AM)

The celebrations of the Emperor's coronation were a little disturbed by the news that the Austrians were building forces in Italy and near Linz. Desptie our best efforts, it seems that we would not be able to have peace for very long.

The Emperor ordered the army to deploy in order to face that threat.

Marshal Davout's 2 corps were dispatched to the plains of Lombardy and were ordered to observe any moves made by the army of Archduke Charles.

The emperor then personnally took command of the Grande Armee and decided to take quarters in the Swiss Alps.

rhodopsine -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 12:33:32 AM)

While the Army was setting up it's quarters east of Zurich, a spanish emissary showed up at the camp and brought news to the Emperor that his King wished an open alliance with us. Knowing that quite a bit of trouble was to be expected in the east, the Emperor eagerly accepted this proposal.

NeverMan -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 12:36:39 AM)

Does putting it up on this forum cause a lot of distortion? It is a very hard map to read and tell what's going on, I hope it is not this way if you are just playing the game. The map seems really "busy", this could just be me.

Thanks for the AARs.

rhodopsine -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 12:40:02 AM)

No... It's really because I had to resize the images so that the file size would not exceed 200K.

rhodopsine -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 12:49:54 AM)

The intention of the Austrians became clear as we recieved a call for help by the Bavarian King. His lands were under attack of the Austrians!

ASHBERY76 -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 12:57:24 AM)

Will the release A.I be very simple? Matrix getting my £30 is the stake.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 2:05:48 AM)

Hey all:

Right now we're teaching the AI HOW to play. When that is complete THEN we'll fine tune the AI to be smarter! This will be an on-going process but our AI scripting allows us to change this WITHOUT changing the program's EXE. This will be a difficult task since much of EiA's success relied on the simple aspects of human nature and it's unpredictable actions!

Once the AI properly plays by the rules THEN it should find ways to win the game (With a little help from the development team)!

Thank you

NeverMan -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 2:55:20 AM)

If it is just a script and can easily be put in a patch, then there is no reason to hold up the release of the game just for a more advanced A.I., right?

Regeurk -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 3:50:04 AM)

Quick question as a follow-up about board appearance: I am having difficulty seeing which cities are fortresses (how many fleches), or how many "spires" they have (i.e. what their size is, garrison capacity, and siege forage values are, etc.). Is this (i.e., my inability to distinguish this) also an issue of the re-sizing, or is it something like this: when you place the mouse cursor over the city, its characteristics appear somewhere on screen?

Thanks for the clarification.[:)]

rhodopsine -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 4:03:22 AM)

Right now, how many spires ant the fortress level of each city is dificult to figure out by looking at the map. But Marshall told us that the map and graphics are currently being revised, so the map you see is not final!

The following of the AAR will follow up later as it is quite a bit of image capture and editing to perform!!!

ktotwf -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 6:40:58 AM)

Get this Mofo released. I want to have it by the time I go to college!!!!!!!!! But, it looks sweet...definitely buying it when it comes out.

rhodopsine -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/14/2005 4:04:41 PM)

Guys,

I've started a PBEM game with another betatester and it seems to get going good so I'll post AAR for that game instead. It will mostly focus on French versus an Austro-Prussian coalition...

Marshall Ellis -> RE: January 1805, Diplomacy (3/15/2005 12:59:42 AM)

Neverman:

We won't hold it up for that BUT there are other "small issues" that we MUST overcome!

Thank you

It's like when everyone asks for updates and stuff, I am pretty sure THIS kind of stuff is EXACTLY what they are looking for, WONDERFUL NEWS, as I don't think much of us care about the A.I., cuz no matter how hard you try avid EiA fans will be able to crush it.

I REALLY appreciate the tidbit of news. Thank you. [:D] Great news.

EDIT: It will be nice to start getting some revenue off of this game for you all, although I do hope that once this game is released (if and when the A.I. and other options are not implemented) that you guys will not abandon it. If you do, I hope that you make it easy to mod the hell out of this game, so players can take it up (A.I. and other things).

If I read this correctly, this means that you're going for a scripted AI, not just parameters in ascii files gamers can fiddle with, but the whole AI logic ?

Does this also mean that the AI can be extended/enhanced by the user community ? Or just event-scripting ?

Greetz,

Eddy Sterckx

rhodopsine -> January setup, part1 (3/15/2005 3:32:14 PM)

here is the initial setup from my PBEM game...

The bulk of the French army in the Swiss Alps facing the austrian army Which is quite spread out around Vienna.

rhodopsine -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/15/2005 3:38:04 PM)

And the rest facing the northern german minors, with the prussian Army mostly around Kustrin but with a few corps in Saxony and Ansbach.

ktotwf -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/16/2005 12:28:08 AM)

I want a battle screen!!!!!

John Umber -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/16/2005 9:11:52 AM)

Is that Turkey conq?

How did that happen?

pfnognoff -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/16/2005 8:08:47 PM)

This image is after the diplomacy phase, and in that phase I (Prussia) declared war on Lausitz, which became Turkey conquered after rolling for control. Simple [:)]

Pippin -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/16/2005 11:53:23 PM)

No, no, no, and no! That's not how you do it.

A proper player, lets everyone else grab the freebies, and THEN declares ware on the big guys, then steals all those guy's collected freebies during the surrenders!

pfnognoff -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/17/2005 2:33:22 AM)

But if you are a semi-big guy who could soon be beaten, you better come to the peace table stacked up on the freebies to fill in the peace terms...

Pippin -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/17/2005 5:33:02 AM)

Never start off planing for defeat! Never!

pfnognoff -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/17/2005 7:39:16 AM)

Marshall Ellis -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/18/2005 12:03:41 AM)

Sterckxe and all:

We're not certain what we're going to eventually allow the user to edit in the AI scripting??? The scripting portion allows you to change the attributes of the nation's leaders (Loyalty, trustworthyness, etc.). You can control the scriptiing to the point of telling the AI which nations in which order to attempt to invade i.e. tell France to cook GBR then murder Austria and Prussia then go after Russia (All of these if possible). You can also tell the AI what kind of spending policies they should use i.e. 80% ground forces, 10% Sea forces, 10% for misc. The neat thing is that as we develop different country specific scripts, the game will become more and more unpredictable. The end result (and our goal) of this would be for the game to not stale out for the EiA community over a period of time! We're trying to avoid "AI patterning" which basically makes a game boring after a while!

We're not allowing the end user to alter much at this time because it is too raw and some combinations could cause crashing so we must maintain strict control over the scripting but hopefully as the game(s) mature we can release an AI editor for the user!

Thank you

Groosh -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/19/2005 4:12:47 PM)

I was looking at the map and I noticed that all the generals are visible on it. I am not sure it is one of the optional rules or a regular rule but I thought the general chits were supposed to be face down.

Happiness,
Groosh

NeverMan -> RE: January setup, part2 (3/19/2005 4:54:49 PM)

I have always played that the generals were visible and I don't recall seeing any rule, optional or other, stating otherwise.

I thought I had seen most optional rules before, but this is the first time I have heard this one myself.

Looking at it now, I am wondering what is/was your plan to do with it. Why Lausitz?
