Yakstock -> PBEM Playback (3/27/2005 4:27:02 AM)

I just realized (due to my computer locking up) something about PBEMs. One thing I liked about games like CMBO or CMBB or live internet play like HTTR is that there is no ability to cheat. One of the reasons I don’t like (and now don't own) hex based igougo games is the ability for players to replay their turns endlessly in PBEM until they like the outcome. I was under the assumption this game was one of those that did not allow such a thing since it was a wego approach. I have not played many PBEM yet but those I had played I was always the second player (i.e. not the one setting the game up). In these situations no matter how many times I watch the replay it is the same since it is not actually playing but just “replaying”. In a recent game where I set it up, I had the game lock after playing the turn. When I replayed it I realized that the result came out different. So it seems the first player to watch is not watching a done deal, but is watching something that could play out differently each time. This is a disappointment to me as it opens the game up to the ability to replay it as many times as I would like until I like the outcome. I would strongly suggest if at all possible, and even if it required emailing the file more times, that the actual playing of the turn (versus “replaying of the turn) be blind, and that any replay send by either player be a done deal and not alterable by multiple playbacks.
