The First Texan -> Canadian Terminology (3/27/2005 4:46:50 AM)

Not really Max Football related..but I figure it's ok since there isn't anything to seriously talk about with the game until it's released

what are these things called in Canada

X -------XXOXX--------X
---X--X---------------X--

I guess since you guys have 12 men on the field you can bunch 4 to one side right
X-------
--X-X-X

---X----
X---X-X

-----X--
X-X---X

-------X
X-X-X--

What do you call those groups?

I'm not even sure what we call those groups in the states...

actually it's 5 that can be bunched to one side without using an unbalanced line.

name multiple cluster, twins, trips, quads, quint, then
name LOS receiver X,Y,Z,H,F,T,U etc
assuming tehre is a running back in all these sets...
and quads forces the back out, Twins is the base set, (2 on each side)
modifications you show

first thing is alignment rules, most coaches try to get their players to remember every sheet in the playbook, rules work much better, especially when you are hot tired, and woozy

Alignment rules
x= always left some teams flip flop, i fix them because the motions suffixes are X and Z
z =always right
y=with call side
F=away from call, or I,king, queen,near far,,trips,quads hip, wing,etc.,........ he gets modifier
H= behind qb,or split, or (empty/quint) ...................... those are his 3 modifiers

only 1 guy needs actual coaching now, so if you only have 1 smart guy,or small staff,
the rest can be pure physical specimens AND complete idiots, and never generate a penalty, or suffer alignment confusion, AND YOU CAN STILL line up in anything imaginable
and not lose a superbowl wandering around

10 minutes into practice you are FINISHED covering formations, for the season,
the bonus is that TO breaks a leg and someone else has to go in at x, whoever you
pick doesnt need to know all the plays for X too, just know the X rule, and go play, not be shaky becuase...
1.hes 2nd string
2.he didnt get practice reps in formation recall session( i dont miss that 30min session at all)
3.he cant remember where everyone lines up on every play,because hes been studying Z all thru mini/training camp, preseason and into wk5,
4.your team needs him to perform despite all of the above

SO YOUR FORMATION CALLS ARE

Trips X Left
Bunches
Quads Left ( X is not state, already on LOS, per rule :) )
Quads H Left
Quads F Left
Quads R/L* Left

*RAZOR OR LAZER= rec closest to box, other than RB, because he will trap/lead on run plays, and I dont want to have my playcall change based on whether its an F, or Y or whatever in the position because of personnel package, I use Razor and Laser as landmarks for whoever lines up flexed off the line next to the tackle,
so anyone on my team, RB,TE, GOALLINE OL,DL in for angus package, K, 3rd string QB,all know if they line up on the right wing they are RAZOR, I ALso call the puller, or the choice of two, so that guys dont forget, nothing is uglier than an unled sweep, and the sheepish look on the Guards face, when he tries to get his RB off the ground with the aid of a spatula

34 razor fan
31 razor ctr
etc,
that is an actual play call in my system, start to finish

34 razor fan

we wigwag wristband in, call play twice, and get 20 seconds at the line of scrimmage to evaluate the DEFENSE,imagine that
same play name no matter whos in, youd be amazed how much Jon Gruden has overcomplicated what could be very simple, Brad Johnson, is still trying to call the play in the huddle,with all the packages, shifts, trades, motions, etc
