Canoerebel -> 2.41 Combat Replay Errors (4/11/2005 5:46:54 AM)

Greetings,

I just converted from 2.30 to 2.41 this morning (4/10/05). I have since experienced a bug on back-to-back turns in one of my PBEM games. The combat replay bears no resemblance to the situation on the turn file. This happened twice: (1) First, a US fast transport convoy of CAs and DDs ran into a minefield at Gavigama. CA Chester and a DD were reported hit. When I opened the turn file, however, the convoy was untouched, but several US ships at Gili Gili had suddenly developed moderate damage and a DMS and AP near Brisbane also had mysteriously suffered moderate damage. (2) The next turn, the combat replay showed no combat whatsover (in fact, my opponent commented in his email sending the turn file "Yawn"). However, when I opened the file, I discovered that a number of US ships at Gili Gili had suffered moderate to severe damage included BB North Carolina, and the aircraft losses menu showed that a number of Allied and Japanese planes had been lost in air-to-air combat and to flak.

What's the deal?

I´m also suffering this kind of problem. However I´ll try to solve it:

1) Playing one game at the same time. If I have another one, I quit the game and restart.

2) Changing the game options: both playes should have the same ones.

But, I have to say that this annoying because while in v 2.30 it only happened sometimes in v 2.41, seems that is QUITE frequent. (at least in my experience)

How about it Matrix? This is a serious error and it is happening EVERY TURN IN EVERY GAME I AM PLAYING. If combat replay is inaccurate, the game is pretty useless....you are flying blind. You are stripped of all the info that the replay provides (coastwatcher sightings, air-sea search results, etc) and thus have no idea how and where to react, where to send reinforcements, which targets the opponent seems to be concentrating on, etc. This bug needs to be fixed asap.

Hello...

No bug. Design limitation. You should make sure you and your opponent have identical settings, as per documenation. You might also restart game, between PBEM resolutions, if still having a problem.

Bye...

hello
I once encountered the same problem. my opponent told me whats happend, so I knew what was coming up.
but it wasnt, I felt I was in the wrong cinema.....I told him about it and he kindly sent in the same turn again..after I checked my settins and I loaded the file again that all was fine.

hope this helps

it helps if the jap player sents in the combat txt report too so you can read what is coming up on to you. you then can check it out while you watch combat replay.

Attention all Jap fanboys!

My understanding is that the Japanese player gets the real combat replay while the Allied player might or might not get an alternative take. However the the game file will load with the results of the Japanese combat replay version either way. The Allied player can do the combat replay as many times as he likes, but it's still the Japanese version he get to act on. The Japanese player can do the same, however every time generating an alternative, but real outcome - ie one that translate into the following turn. This might be a misconception on my part, but if I'm right, doesn't this mean that the Japanese player can keep reloading the turn until he gets a good result, then send that to the opponent? Wouldn't Nagumo have been tempted to cheat and reloaded the turn after Midway, I ask you?

McDuck -> RE: 2.41 Combat Replay Errors (6/21/2005 7:34:44 AM)

Hello TimTom , As i understand it , when the allied player saves his pbem turn the combat results are locked in at that point . So as the japanese player you can reload the turn as often as you want but the results should always be the same . Regards ... HMcS

Yes the result is always the same.

Sergeant -> RE: 2.41 Combat Replay Errors (10/8/2005 10:32:34 PM)

I just started a new game as Allied player & my Cmbt Save files are duplicating & replaying the wrong files. It took 3 file deltes and 5 re-save attempts before it finally played the correct combat report. I know our settings are correct (I think) I can't see his but I plugged in what he told me to & rechecked to make sure I had them right - only difference was one setting from preveous game. This shouldn't require rocket science to enjoy the game! MATRIX can call it "design Limitation all they want - but from customer service stand point - when this many people complain about same problem, that tells me something either needs to be changed or fixed in the interest of customer relations.
MATRIX - look at this way... If sales are dropping off - it could be because people are reading bug reports before they buy. We just want to have some fun & get our money's worth on the product!
