Is north always assumed to be toward the top of the map? Or must we estimate true north from any location? For example: a ship is spotted in the Indian Ocean heading West. Is it moving toward my left, or toward the top of the map?

North is the top of the map, West is the left, and so on.

Game reports and "most" E mail players treat the top as north, right side as east ect. In reality north is a point a few (10-15 maybe?) hexes north of the center of the map, so in India for example north is to your right, while in New Calidonia its straight up, and on the US West Coast its up and to the left. Thus for simplicity, north is up. [:)]

If you click on the Control Zone Map (letter z) you can view the whole game area. IMHO this is an attgempt to deal with "the world is round issue". To some extent the Large Strategic Map ( ctrl-A) does the same. Hope this helps. Hugh Browne
