waynec -> what day is it? (game wise) (4/13/2005 2:06:32 AM)

ok i'm feeling really stupid today so why not share.

i am writing an narrative aar using the coral sea scenario. i have recreated the map in using photoshop and illustrator so i can plot each days intelligence, ops reports and attacks. i probably have overthought this and have myself very confused so the question is:
i play day 1 05/01/42, save
starting day 2 i look at the SIG INT REPORT FOR 05/01/42, OPERATIONAL REPORT FOR 05/01/42 AND AFTER ACTION REPORT FOR 05/01/42.
am i correct when i say all the stuff in these reports actually happen on 01 since i am on day 2?

so the date on the report is for the previous day's turn to be used to figure out what the japanese did on 01 so i can make my moves on day 02.

told you i was feeling rather stupid today but it's fun plotting the reports and seeing if i can figure out any patterns and try to get a feel for what the staff officers were going through in may 42. just another aspect that makes this more then just ant wargame.

Mr.Frag -> RE: what day is it? (game wise) (4/13/2005 2:49:52 AM)

General confusion.

The game *starts* with the night phase then morning phase then afternoon phase.

The date you see at the top is effectively the the day of the morn/afternoon phase, not the night phase. It is the *results* of the past 24 hours. (actually two dates worth)

I get confused with just the date "01/08/42".

Is that 1st of August 1942 or 8th of January 1942?[&:]
I've got stop and think every time, since dates here in Oz are day/month/year.[:D]

know how you feel. i was in the army and always did day/month/year. whenever possible i spell it out
05/01/42 i would spell out 01MAY42. of course most forms don't allow for that. also go by my middle name and first initial so you can imagine.

Another preferences option for patch 1.6????

waynec -> RE: what day is it? (game wise) (4/14/2005 5:05:54 AM)

could be worse. the japanese stayed on tokyo time thoughout the war. and at least we don't have international date line changes or various time zones. when there isn't a specific form sometimes i put my birthday (07DEC51) down as 07/12/51 and get birthday coupons for july 12. and we can't normal civilians understand the 24 hour clock?

I wish game designers would show their dates like 01 Dec 1942, rather than use date as numbers which mean different things to different folks.

IIRC, most of my old board games use to do it that way, show as words. Less confusion for a global market.

Could you upload the map file you created? Is it the entire map or just the Coral Sea? How much work is it to recreate the entire map? BMP / JPEG?

I also track coordinates of TFs with large number of ships on paper and found it helps me anticipate enemy movements and I thought about a paper map I can keep on the side for just such a thing.
