Spenser -> How do units gain experience (4/23/2005 11:04:57 AM)

Hi!

Is it possible to manually calculate how much a units ratings for experience, morale, rally, infantry, artllery and armor should increase after each battle?
Is it based solely on number of kills ?

I don't know if anyone has ever figured this one out, but other than getting kills, simply firing weapons can increase a unit's experience/morale. Taking heavy casualties or getting routed can also reduce morale.

Anybody have a more scientific answer for this question?

well, it depends on what he means.
you can change the preferences at the start of a game/campaign.
edit the countrys experience, and all that,
or if you are creating a scenario, you can edit a units data.
but in general game play, a unit gains experience by actually fighting in battles.

Hi guys!
I'll try to clarify.
If i wanted to use the same units in different (edited) scenarios, how much should i increase the units experience, morale and command ratings after each battle?
How much experience does a unit gain by killing for example 5 enemy units, and does units gain experience slower the more experienced they get?
Does the level of victory/defeat affect the experience gained?

In other words, is it possible to manually increase (or decrease? ) units ratings between scenarios in the same way as they automatically would in a campaign?

I don't think you can manually change a specific unit.

I must have been having a senior moment when I wrote the above. [X(]

You can modify all data (including experience, morale, and leader rankings) of any unit you want if you're edditing an scenario.

Go to the editor, clic on the unit you want to change, and look for a button called "modify unit data" o smth like that. I don't have the spwaw instaled in my coputer any more, so I can't be more specific [:(]
Check the manual, the part that explains how to edit an scenario.

I ve been following this through carefully during a campaign, and I've found it to be quite variable. Sometimes units with a couple of kills will gain no experience, and sometimes they will gain about 5 points. I have had units gain as much as 10 experience after a particularly successful battle (say 10 kills and lots of action). I'm pretty caution though, and a few points is typical.

You can use Chlanda's editor to change nearly anything.

Thanks for your input!

I know how to change the units values in the scenario or Chlanda editor, i just don't know by how much i ought to change them...[&:]
Maybe there are random factors in play during a campaign ?

The reason i'm asking is that me (computer side) and my mate are trying to play the russian steel campaign in pbem by playing each battle as a separate scenario after which i would like to change his russian core units values by the same amount as they would have changed in the normal (vs the computer) campaign.

If you're not playing the game, why are you here?

Spenser,

I have an XL spreadsheet of the Das Reich campaign to about 12 battles. You can see the effects in this of the number of kills and experiece gained for all units. If you would like I could send it to you so you could analyse the info.

In this campaign, the performance of the tanks in the last battle (Jalnja 3) ranged from 2 kills/+5 expereince, to 10 kills/+5 experience. For the infantry the range was no kills/1+exp to 10 kills/+4 exp.

If I had to guess the general relationship seems to be about 2kills/1exp.

Gallo has made no secret of the fact that he doesn't like SPWaW at all, and he takes every opportunity to get in a negative dig. I don't understand it either. It's pointless and serves no useful purpose. [8|]
