Actually, scratch that. Include a Martian Walker from War of the Worlds

You are so, so right, Erik! War of the Worlds and Winnie the Pooh are my two favorite childhood books. Since a Tigger counter won't work with LnL, I guess I'll have to go with the 3-legged walker. I can't wait to see how Lucas will handle that latter this summer. Some of those battles scenes still play through my mind. See below...

quote:

Are the discussion of battletech and units from other futuristic fighting forces (FFF) teasers as to your next project?

The inside of my head is a funny place to live. If I was nine (which my wife claims I am), my parents would brand me ADD and drug me up. But since I'm older, I avoid the branding. There is a never ending cacophony of ideas bouncing through my brain. For example, I wrote a vampire scenario for ANZAC ATTACK. As some of you may know, Asia is steeped in vampire mythology. It was great, but I didn't include it in the expansion due to a last minute maturity attack. The heroine, Kno Hue (pronounced No Way) was created specifically for the scenario, and she did make the expansion, and is a part of the world in my head (she is the great grand-daughter of Kate, from my Aftermath game).

Is my talk of FF stuff teasing? Not really. Or at least I'm teasing myself as much as anyone else. Mecha stuff fascinates me, and there are presidents... Ring of Red, Gear Krieg, etc.. Bottom line there are two answers: 1) Most certainly I hoope to one day put out a FFF module, and 2) Yes, it is entirely possible that there MAY be a hidden scenario in BoH that has a completely unexpected unit.

Best,
Mark

Sarge -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/3/2005 7:34:21 AM)

I hope I am not to late getting in one this [:(],

IMHO no one in there right frame of mind would go head to head with a Tiger,Panther or any Armor at the said scale of the game. I would like to see something a little more realistic then a heavy. Airborne or not when it came to heavy Armor it was time to bug out. [X(]

Edit; And if was to be a US tank ,make it a M10 TD. The open top makes a kill fesible with out some poor sole winning a Iron Cross or Metal of Honor [;)]

Can you put in a counter named "Murphy" with some souped up stats to represent Audy Murphy? ;) I swear looking at the counters, I'm tempted to buy this board game as well since it looks very simular to Squad Leader to me. But, alas, board games are a past history to me, must be a computer wargame now. ;)

It has full VAASAL support.

Erik Rutins -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/3/2005 3:25:44 PM)

Yep - you can play it online through VASSAL on your computer as long as you know the rules and scenarios. Board gaming these days, it's much easier to find a "virtual" opponent if you don't have someone to play with in person.

Regards,

ravinhood -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/3/2005 5:22:02 PM)

You guys got a link to this VASSAL? What is it? How does it work? Is it like setup the boardgame at your houses and play someone else across the globe and you move all the pieces or does this VASSAL store the board and pieces and you just make your moves online? In other words is all I need is the game and rules understanding and this VASSAL does all the rest of the work?

Erik Rutins -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/3/2005 5:51:41 PM)

Ravinhood,

That's right, the board and pieces are set up on VASSAL, you don't have to set them up at home.

Here's the main link:

And a wiki overview:

Here's a shot of the Memoir 44 VASSAL module:

Can't really go without a link to the ASL adaptation either:

ravinhood -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/3/2005 11:03:19 PM)

Thanks, I'm going to look into it. This might open up playing some old boardgames again or new ones I like. I just don't want the hassle of the game pieces getting scattered or dog chewed, etc. etc. Long as a computer handles the pieces, maps I can handle the rules etc.

markhwalker -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/4/2005 2:15:28 PM)

Ray,

I'll give you a gamer-to-gamer answer on that one. I'd LOVE to do a FFF version of LnL, and have even sketched out the rules. I thruly hope that comes to fruition, but I can tell you that each sector of this very cool hobby want their own version of LnL. The WW2 buffs want to see East Front, the modern day buffs want to see Somalia, Falklands, or Iraq, and there are even sci-fi buffs like you and me who want to see the FFF version. I really hope that I can get to them all. But I'll be honest... the best way to ensure that is to trundle over to the Matrix store and pre-order Band of Heroes. The powers to be are seriously watching this module. We need to show them that it is worth their while.

Best,
Mark

And don't forget North Africa and Pacific land battles. ;) Even if it is $64.99 and I'm not buying it I still vote for the above. heh

markhwalker -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/5/2005 1:16:34 PM)

But doesn't that M-10 look cool? We also have a Tiger I that nakes an appearance in a scenario called "The Alamo." The scenario was inspired by the climatic battle in Saving Private Ryan.

Ravinhood, I told you... I'll pay you to buy BoH. [;)]

Fred98 -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/9/2005 1:58:32 AM)

Does the scenario follow the film with no armor support for the Allies
................................... Stick Bombs[8|].....................................

Becuase I got to tell ya, in the real world a Co. of Germans W/Armor support would have taken that bridge with little problem Vs a squad of AB and a squad of Rangers.

PS: The M10 rocks!

Top of page 2 of the thread, where Mark responds to my post. Its my made up acronym for games that feature Futuristic Fighting Forces (FFF). Page 2, first post :).

ravinhood -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/9/2005 11:36:46 PM)

Lol and one person already had me believing it was Free French Fighters. lol

King Tiger
Tiger

PzKwIVf2 (et al)
PzKwIIIL (et al)
Pz35
StuGIII
Marder
Hetzer
Brumbar

off topic (sort of)

UH, I dunno, Sarge. If I had a choice of being a Tiger in a cramped Euro village, or a squad of Paratroopers assigned to take it out, I'd rather be the Paratroopers.

And yes, the scenario does follwo the movie. In reality, war is MUCH LESS predictable than boardgames. But want to know what a couple of guys can do? Read up on the XYZ complex (out Medal of Honor scenario), two Americans took down an entire German artillery battalion.

Best,
Mark

Any commander worth his salt would have lead the (SPR town in qestion) assault with infantry, and left the Armor for support.

PS: But I will take ya up on that tactic on VASSAL [:D]

If I remember well the movie, germans were in a urge to take the bridge before US relief arrives, using the advatange of number and greater firepower . (And at the end, the bridge was saved for US by a very last minute reinforcement.)
Germans needed to fight strong and fast, and to be not too prudent. It was desesperate on both sides as bridges on Merderet were (one of) the keys of victory.

Looking forward to my copy arriiving.[:D] will it be ready in time for Origins and then ship afterwards? I am getting anxious.

markhwalker -> RE: I gotta have this tank! (6/14/2005 9:00:57 AM)

Erik,

I more up to date on the shipping date. Everyone is doing all that they can, but I do know it will be VERY close.

markhwalker -> Tigers Take on Tom (7/30/2005 12:24:25 PM)

Just to let you all know what DID make it into the game. There are Tigers... two brands. We've even placed tham in a scenario, facing off against Tom Hanks.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to squeeze in any BattleMechs (or CATs as they are know in my universe). I had seriously considered putting them in as an event depicting a special German research project, but ran out of time. I guess we'll just have to wait for Night of Man.

Oliver designed it, and it's a lot of fun.

Best,
Mark

Rooster -> RE: Tigers Take on Tom (8/1/2005 6:20:05 AM)

It's prolly too late, but I'd love to see the ARVE... wrong end of Normandy, I know.

Or this bad boy:

Yeah, but hasn't the whole NAZI skeleton thing been done to death?

I much prefer this...
