After all the times I've bought games without demo's to discover that:
a) Feel ripped off. Way overpriced for what you get.
b) AI is so bad it shouldn't be on the market.
and a few other reasons I will not buy a game anymore without a demo.
This game looks interesting but I won't buy it because of no demo.
I just bought Tin Soldiers and Starshatter because I had played their demo.
Demo's mean a lot. Without them you are losing potential customers.

I can't really answer your question ... but Matrix Games in the past have not been interested in posting demos. On the other hand, a few of their new games have demos coming out, so maybe things are changing. As for CotD in particular, it's programmed almost entirely by one person, so he may not want to take the time to create a working demo. On the (third) hand, I'm not really up on Frank's publishing history, so he may actually have put demos out for his previous games.

How's that for a vague answer?

There are quite a few AARs on this board, if you wade far enough back. There are plenty of screenshots posted, too, so you aren't surprised by what the game looks like. I, personally, enjoy the game. It doesn't have the strongest AI, but I play about a game a month, and I have since it came out. It offers a really interesting fog of war setting, and for me that makes it worth the couple of hours it takes to play a scenario.

Actually Matrix Games is agnostic in this matter - it's the developer's choice whether or not to make a demo.

I'm all in favour of demo's and they can be pretty easy to make if this was taken into account at project start. If not, well, they can be a lot of work without a certain return on investment.

As an aside : I like the game, it's not the greatest game ever and the AI is not stellar, but it's got a certain quality that keeps me returning to it from time to time.
