Rohna -> Please, NO more patches! (5/4/2005 5:24:23 AM)

Since I first got this game shortly after it's release, i've been following these boards. I've also owned UV and followed those boards.

I followed to read peoples strategies and experiences. People would ask advice about certain situations and get helpful awnsers, which were helpful for me and interesting to read. Great strategies and informitive tips were plentiful.

NOW, it's all about complaints and whining. Everybody has a problem with something and i'm getting so sick and tierd of reading them (before any smart ass says it, i have not visited this board as much and will probably eventually stop reading posts here.)

Many of you people need to get lives, seriously. And grow up, some of you are just acting like "dorks" (sucking up and/or overly trying to be cute or witty.)

Before anybody feels compelled to say something like "hey pal, who cares what you think, just leave", know that many people already have that were great contributors and their posts a pleasure to read. They've said nothing and just left.

I used to come here to read posts and get excited to play WitP, now all this place does is burn me out.

It's a shame some of you are so obsessed with perfection or lack a social life in the "real world."

Maybe if there are NO MORE PATCHES people would stop being so obsessed with trying to change WitP to suit their gaming style, or their personal interpretation of history, and start to appreciate the game agian.

I DO understand the difference between people making constructive complaints (thank you, you've made the game better), but this is getting out of hand. I get the feeling some people are analizing every little tiny part of this game so as to have some kind of online forum recognition. PATHETIC.

BTW, this is just my advise and observation. I always have and will continue to enjoy WitP no matter what people say.

Maybe some day this forum will return to the interesting place it once was.

Until then, i'm OUT.

tsimmonds -> RE: Please, NO more patches! (5/4/2005 5:28:23 AM)

By and large, I agree with you 100%. Entirely too much whining on this board. Guys should retreat to their basements and crank out some turns for a few weeks. Then we'll talk about what's broken (and my god how I've come to hate that word).

Except that the things that I think are wrong, should be fixed, next week, 1.51[;)]

Tankerace -> RE: Please, NO more patches! (5/4/2005 5:46:10 AM)

So, whining is bad, but whining about the whiner's is ok? [:D]

Seriously though, I agree with you completely. Never before have I seen a company that devotes this much support to a game in terms of bugfixes and new features. And instead of being happy that they are getting better support than anyother game, they want more.

That said, WitP still has some issues, but I agree with Irrelevant here, we need to actually play 1.5 for a while, because from where I am sitting, it seems most *bugs* people are reporting are actually new features and such.

That said, I STILL WANT THE D*** LEADER BUG FIXED!!!!

Other than that, I like WitP as is.

hexgod -> RE: Please, NO more patches! (5/4/2005 5:48:20 AM)

I agree, very whiny board. I guess they think this is Burger King or something. Anyway, great game, no doubt there is room for improvement, but the game is really a kind of masterpiece in it's own right. It's impossible to find good Hex-Based games like this anymore. Does anyone remember Norm Koger's Conflict: Korea ? I loved that game. Anyway I think the worst part about the whining is "hisorically" this, "historically" that. Give me a break, who cares? It's a game, and it should be played by it's own rules to it's own conclusion. Like there isn't enough detail in the game as it is, geeze.

Grotius -> RE: Please, NO more patches! (5/4/2005 6:39:05 AM)

I'm all in favor of constructive criticism, but I also worry about all the complaining I see here. My main concern is that it will drive newcomers away from the game. That would be a shame in and of itself, because they'd be missing a great game. But more generally, if we want game companies to make more games like this, we need more people to join our hobby.

The only things you left out were "zoinks" and "gee willakers". Oh yeah, then there's "jinkies", but that might be copyrighted already.

Drop by more often, a lot of folks don't understand the reality that there are 3000+ normal folks out there that also play the game that counter balance the extremists here. [;)]

m10bob -> RE: Please, NO more patches! (5/4/2005 4:11:21 PM)

Rhona, don't get the wrong idea when you read these posts. It's not all about whining. Most of these folks who you have labelled as "whiners" are old-timers who are used to Matrix reading the threads for possible problems and Matrix usually does something about them.If they don't know about problems,(real or imagined),they can't be fixed or addressed.
The flip side of this is that when a post is made for an error or problem(alleged),it can either draw out folks with the same problem,or it can draw out the "lynch mob mentality" who would be quick to jump on ANYBODIES band wagon, and not necessarily to agree with the original poster, but maybe just to be heard.I dunno, sometimes I think they're just not having sex often enough,or maybe they don't know when to put the bottle down,(LOL),but they usually go to sleep in time anyway after they say they intend to "never come back"..
Don't be scared off,we all do have something to contribute, and I'm big into making changes from within..

We need more samplings to make a determination. Can you rant? Please send a paragraph of no less than 2000 words that includes at least 1 reference to "historical", "fanboy" and "those damn betas"

[:'(]

Tankerace -> RE: Please, NO more patches! (5/4/2005 6:18:05 PM)

Don't forget, you get triple word score if you use all three in the sentence, such as "This game does not present historical results thanks to the fanboyism of those damn betas."

Please be aware that you win the grand prize if and only if said sentence makes any kind of sence whatsoever.

and you think "Please, NO more patches!" will alleviate the situation? hey pal, who cares...oops [X(]

seriously, i agree that there is lots of whining on this forum. especially right after a patch is released. i think people are genuinely attempting to make constructive observations with regard to the effects of a patch, but they are going about it in a way that is less than constructive. in the navy, we called this "shooting from the hip"...stating a case that has not been well thought out, or doesn't have data to back it up and give it merit. usually the jackals from the wardroom would rush in for the kill at the smell of a statement bloody with lack of data (hmmm, gotta work on those mixed metaphors). the problem i have observed on this forum is that i rarely see anyone challenge such claims. one poster makes an oberservation and a half dozen more pile on with the same observation. does the volume of posts make the observation (or rather the conclusion from the observation) valid? of course not. but the posts are made, the theories are tossed about, different fanboys weigh in from their prospective sides, and i rarely see a concrete conclusion to the issue by the end of the thread.

perhaps this all stems from vague descriptions from the fix list of the patch.
1) Variable "X" has been tweaked slightly...
ok, but what does "slightly" mean? for example, subs will have little chance of NOT being detected if within "Y" range of an airbase with ASW/Nav Search missions assigned? was this intended? did the "tweak" work as planned? i don't know the answer...there is only one group that knows the answer...they haven't opined on the subject yet, to my knowledge. i'm guessing they are patiently observing, or busy with other stuff...or maybe both.

in the mean time, there will be wild and not so wild claims with little to back them up and the subsequent flurry of posts that lead to a dead end or no conclusion. there is some value to seeking perfection, but it's a long, hard road.

retreating back to basement...thankyou for any forum recongnition coming my way [;)]

Not so fast. Last time Mr. Frag threw out a number, which was similarly low, the Matrix folks dismissed it as being way off the mark on the low side. I have always heard of a target range of 5000 to 15000 and actual sales were referred to as safely within the range.

Having read a few posts on Matrix forums, I can say that Whining is what its all about: the search or plea for perfection. It will never come but it sure makes great reading. Whine On, you Whiners ( or Winers:))
