Gilligan -> SPlitting air groups...trick to it? (5/11/2005 12:54:42 AM)

Hey guys,

Anyone know the trick to splitting air groups? Sometimes it lets me, other times no. Anyone know the guidelines for splitting groups?

1 you can split the "large" groups but not the small ones.
2 you can only have so many airgroups so if you make lots and lots of subgroups the game won't let you make any more.

Be very careful about fragmenting, no relation to MR Frag btw, your air.. leads to much heartache!

Max split groups is 18 total.
So if you are doing a PBEM inform your opponent that the limit is 9 for each side.

Or try one of Pry's new scenario's. Most of the air units are squadron sized. So the need to keep track of how many are split is less of a burden.

Thanks guys..appreciate the fast answer.

Practice good hygene, clean up your fragmented groups when possible, and you will be able to spilt when you really need it.

Before 1.5 3 small air groups repaired 3 times faster than one big one, so it was pretty important. Now the main reason for good hygene is fragments bugging your game.

Also personally I find it easier to remember what I am doing with squadrons and groups than with fragments. That is a memory trick, not a tactic.

So your saying that the repair faster w/ 3 smaller groups isn't an issue anymore Tom? I wasn't aware of that....if so glad to hear.

We adjusted the rate on large groups *and* fixed an old UV bug that was kneecapping them when the needed replacements past 50. No more need to split 'em really.

I use Mogami's training method. I split daitai into chutai in order to give my combat units replacements. You mean my opponent and I can split into a total of 18 chutai/squadrons?

Except to add freshly-trained pilots to front-line units. The 18-group limit will always cause problems here.

Aside from what has already been said, i've noticed that if you have x number of subgroups (x = number not yet determined, but could be as small as one), then it will not let you split a group. I discovered this in trying to move the AVG across China. As aircraft dropped out (due to repair) and got left behind at different bases (thus forming subgroups), i noticed the AVG could no longer be split even though other groups retained that capability (so hadn't reached the 18 group limit).
