Zap -> How did you find Matrix? How's the relationship going? (5/20/2005 10:48:14 PM)

I will begin with the disclaimer that I never worked for Matrix past or present. I'm just a greatful gammer throwing out my 2cents.
I discovered Matrix through a purchase of Korun Pocket in a Frys Electronics in early 2004. I had just connected to the internet at the same time. At the time I was starved/lost just looking for something like Matrix. It was a great find for me.

Contact:
I found my home, Be truthful I have enjoyed the Forums immensely. Contact with mature and knowlegable gammers(I'm just a pip-squeak among you) has given me great pleasure.
By nature I'm a reserved type so to have this Forum for social contact of this nature(wargames) is great. I've never had the fortune of having gammers near for the one on one contact. I look forward to playing my first Pbem.

Experience
My first impressions were very good and I have not changed those opinions with this post. Good games, good support, company people participating in the community, gammers , developers, designers participating in the community. It's the whole package.

I will have to give my relationship with Matrix a 5 smile
[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

How did I find MATRIX....well while in a Virgin music store in their bookstore section I was thumbing through a PC magazine and I noticed the disc packed with the magazine was missing, (removed), picked up another, and another and all had the free game disc missing, so I picked up the last one and there it was the missing disc. I figured if it was good enough to steal something must be right so I bought the Magazine and got hold of SPwaw ver 4.5 and an intro to MATRIX, that was few years ago. Even with a few rough spots along the way I'm still here. So now you know the rest of the story.........

AlvinS -> RE: How did you find Matrix? How the relationship going? (5/21/2005 1:32:11 AM)

In 2000 I was looking through a PC Gamer magazine and noticed a small listing for Pac War, and a link to Matrix. I came to this site to download the game, and to my surprise they had SPWAW 4.5. I downloaded that one also because my original versions of Steel Panthers no longer played nice with my PC. The rest is history. 5 years and a few hundred dollars later, I am still an avid Matrix fan, as I own quite a number of their games. There are very few days that go by, that a Matrix title does not play on my PC.[8D]

Hertston -> RE: How did you find Matrix? How the relationship going? (5/21/2005 1:37:56 AM)

I can't remember. My first thought would have been after buying the UK box release of either Korsun Pocket or Titans of Steel, but I seem to have signed up before that. Maybe it was finding the right place to download SP:WaW.

My favourite games publishers by a mile; I tend to buy most of what they put out, although as the non-wargame releases increase that will drop as I have no interest in I of the Enemy, Maximum Football, etc. Matrix just seem to publish the sort of games I want to play, and I'm very much looking forward to Crown of Glory and CotA in particular. I'm sure they'll get my cash for Combat Leader, Combined Arms and Battles of Napoleon, too.

There are other wargames publishers, of course, but the only thing of any immediate interest from them is Shrapnel's Falklands War game (which I've pre-ordered on the basis of the demo) and the HPS Gettysburg, which I've been humming and haa-ing over since it was released and still havn't decided whether to purchase it or not.

I did a google search for PacWar a long time ago.

Sarge -> RE: How did you find Matrix? How the relationship going? (5/21/2005 2:18:12 AM)

Was a beta tester for a title Matrix published.

Game is long gone off the HD but Matrix is still in the favorites folder.[:)]

rhondabrwn -> RE: How did you find Matrix? How the relationship going? (5/22/2005 1:08:27 AM)

I don't remember... I think I googled "wargames" or something and was just clicking links to kill time on a graveyard shift. I saw the *free* Steel Panther's download and then started checking out the site (this was before WiTP and after UV). Eventually, after much reflection, I bought WiTP... and then couldn't help myself after that. Some kind of addiction generated by the game so that now I own a good portion of their wargaming stable.

I would definitely rate Matrix a 9.8/10

It's kinda like being married ... you don't exactly know where it came from ... but now you've got it and you're stuck with it ... until something better comes along ...

Come to think of it, that applies to venereal disease, too.

bradfordkay -> RE: How did you find Matrix? How the relationship going? (5/22/2005 7:51:25 PM)

I was searching for information on that vaporware game Pacific Tide back in 2000, and found a link to Matrix's announcements on Uncommon Valor. Now I am on my second screen name (a change in e-mail address before updated the screen name info required this) and am hopelessly addicted to War In the Pacific, having bought both UV and WITP on the date of release.

It's funny, because I used to be a Steel Panthers addict, but when I got a copy of SPWAW on a CD included in a Computer Games Magazine some years ago the game couldn't seem to scale to my faster machine (my eyes couldn't keep up with the combat reports) so I gave it up. At the time, I didn't even connect it with Matrix.

I got a souvenir in London, got to hide it from me mum.
Can't declare it at the customs, but I've got to take it home.

[:)]Long ago, when my beloved SSI closed up, i thought my days of pc wargaming were coming to an end[:(]. At some point, needing a new/improved steel panthers, i stumbled across Matrix. Funny, i thought "who are these shmoes? they'll never replace SSI!"[:D] What a long, strange trip it's been...[8D]

wodin -> RE: How did you find Matrix? How the relationship going? (5/25/2005 2:36:54 AM)

I wasnt connected to the net from 1999 to 2003. Before then I played Close Combat alot and visited the Blitz website and Wargamer.

When I finally got reconnected I did a search for wargames and hey presto I came across Combat leader........my jaw dropped and I thought is it out yet......no.........is it out soon.........I want it...etc etc. I then found my way to Matrix and the forum.

Ive bought Korsun Pocket and Across the Dneiper,Httr, Titans of Steel and UV. I like KP I sort of liked ToS and couldnt get into UV at all. HTTR is a superb game but the continous time thing baffles me. Really Im waiting on CL. I might buy GoA aswell who knows.

SO far so good........Im just a bit imaptient that my No1 game is still low down on the release schedule.

riverbravo -> RE: How did you find Matrix? How the relationship going? (5/25/2005 9:26:11 AM)

It all started with a game called Close Combat 3 and friend of mind named "Sabot" or 'lawernce Jameson" wichever you guys remember him by and a the microsoft game zone.At the zone you could find opponents like GS_Marcks (marc schwanebeck) CSO_Sulla (Shaun Wallace) and some nut named MadBunny (eric young) and a cast of characters to long to name them all.Well,it was just as much fun to 'debate' in the live chat as it was to play the game. So,CC ran its course and then Sabot tells me about a 3d version of CC....Woot...what I always wanted. So I bugged the sh!t out the guys at freedom games and when Matrix picked up the title Shaun was kewl enough to give me a chance to beta test wich I really enjoyed and learned a lot. After the title was released I just kinda stuck around. The majority of the community around here is cool and I have made many 'trades' with plenty of the people in the community.I got all kinds of cool books and games from swapping with people throguh "snail mail".I have gotten tons of tips on good books, movies and a lot knowledge on war, weapons, tactics etc etc from the guys around here.

I havent been that active since real life has been keeping me busy and since I dont have much to say about wargames at the moment I just keep my mouth shut.

But Matrix has always done me right and I consider them the "keepers of the serious wargamers flame".

I dont know of any other wargame company that has such open communication with the staff and devs.I hope all goes well for Matrix and the staff.

I hope you guys continue to grow and thrive and keep things going.None of us are getting any younger and the majority of games out there are pretty much ...well...junk.Thanks for making games that us 'ageing' gamers can relate to!

Take it easy......

I was doing a Yahoo search for Empires in Arms about 2 years ago. I was excited because it said available soon. I have since purchased War in the Pacific, Campaigns on the Danube, World at War, and Reach for the Stars. I am still waiting for EIA but I have had a lot to do in the mean time anyways. WITP is great. I love RFTS. GGWAW is okay. I like it but have trouble really getting into it. CotD is okay as well but is no longer on my HD.

When the demise of atomic came after cc5 someone said matrix was going to create the 'next generation' of closecombat type games. It then split into close assault and combat leader, one turn based, the other real time like cc.

So I came over to be a part of the discussion on what features I'd like to see in the next generation of closecombat.

Oh, and the relationship is going just fine... but for some reason, they keep taking my money. [8D]

When they released SPWAW for free. Not sure when it was. 1999 ? 2000 ? I remember I downloaded it with "robby" (my poor us robotics 33.6k :-))) ) it took about 2 days if I remember well! :-)))

acrosome -> RE: How did you find Matrix? How's the relationship going? (5/29/2005 10:44:38 PM)

Egad, I think it was early 2001. My college room-mate and I had comitted finals seppuku playing SP (SSI versions) instead of studying for several terms in a row. I got on the net and did a search for SP to look for patches and voila! Matrix pops up!

I have been mostly a SPWAW junkie, but have also purchased UV and WitP. I plan to buy at least 8 copies of CL when it comes out just to make up for all the waiting. They are killing me with this CL thing. I need this next generation game to continue to thrash my old college room-mate in PBEMs. The viscious ba$tard has been getting a little too smug lately, now that we live on opposite sides of the continent...

edited for atrocious spelling...

Most of the vets know about me, as I've been fortunate to serve in various capacities with Matrix during my 5 years on the forums. I've made some great friends, and unfortunately lost a few along the way, but it's been a fascinating and rewarding experience so far.

Not bad for a nearly-48 year old gamer whose stubborness and perserverance got me in touch with several gaming luminaries, earned myself a few more grey hairs, and allowed me to participate in a couple of Matrix projects.

Wouldn't trade it for the world. [:D]

U2 -> RE: How did you find Matrix? How's the relationship going? (5/29/2005 11:43:44 PM)

When Gary Grigsby and Co signed with Matrix I followed. Now, luckily, Matrix is much more than 2by3's games and I buy most of them. I found a new "home" here when SSI closed.

Been a tester for Uncommon Valor and War in the Pacific.

I would like to help 2by3 once again one day....

well Matrix was the first forum i got on when i -at last - installed internet at home (we european are like that, slowmovers)
i searched for "wargames" and when i found pacwar, i couldn't resist downloading it.
then met some people here then saw some got expelled then got fed up (it was at the time of gulf war - lot of US against Euro mails and yelling etc. So i quit (my computer helped me by breaking down later).
now i'm back under second name and am positively pleased to see some quiet here.
So, if you don't mind, i'll stay around some.
