Everyone has heard of this happening in the 70s, but in 2005?

60 years of living in the steaming, rotting jungle. Honor has been served. Banzai!

Of course they still have to verify if they were indeed members of the Imperial Japanese Army.

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Lost (5/27/2005 9:11:30 AM)

incredible.....

Micah Goodman -> RE: Lost (5/27/2005 1:54:39 PM)

If they were members of the Japanese Army, it sounds like they didn’t want to go home. They had to know the war was over. What a waste.

Graycompany -> RE: Lost (5/27/2005 2:12:44 PM)

I wonder how much back pay they have coming?[8|]

DrewMatrix -> RE: Lost (5/27/2005 4:50:13 PM)

If they were 16 years old in 1945 they would be 76 now. I guess that's possible but I am generally sceptical. I will await some follow-up before being convinced.

The article did say they were in their 80's... Several years ago, some Japanese POWs were released (or escaped) from some communist labor camps, but that did not get the publicity of the guy who was still holding out in the PI.
