Here are some new city graphics:

Here are some Napoleonic units. Most are historically correct.

The ones I have posted are just a very tiny number of the HUGE number of graphics that have been for Civ2. As you can see, the art is very good.

I would suggest that work currently being done on Civ2 (a 1996 game) can rival most turn-based games currently on the market.

There are lots of highly talented individuals who have freely devoted their time to doing thousands of graphics for civ2. This also includes new events, sounds, scenarios, etc...

Very nice Warfare1, I would even say those graphics rival the upcoming Crown of Glory unit graphics. Well done.

So, you need to find a place to upload your modded graphics so others can enjoy those fine quality graphics that want them. Whoever did them did some very good and detailed work for sure. I just don't have the patience or time to piddle with coloring though. Heck I never was even good with a coloring book as a kid, give me a brown crayon an every page was brown. lol

Erik Rutins -> RE: new wargame "War across the Pacific 1941-1945" (6/3/2005 11:44:35 PM)

A friend of mine still loves playing Civ 2. Any chance you could e-mail me your modified graphics set in a zip file?

Regards,

- Erik

Hey Erik if he does can you put them up as a download on your site (with his permission of course?) ;)

Erik:

I am currently updating the Civ2 default units file. I am a bit anal about getting the graphics just right. I haven't done so in a while, and I found some good graphics.

Hang in a bit, OK?

Also, if anyone has some webspace, I would like to post these graphics for everyone. They will be for the default game, and will involve very comprehensive graphics, with the total file size being about 2-3mb.

Warfare1 -> RE: new wargame "War across the Pacific 1941-1945" (6/4/2005 9:40:27 AM)

Here are more civ2 graphics from a wide range of historical periods to whet your appetite (and remember all this is done with just 8 bit, 256 colours):

I found a link of someones who has done 500 unit graphics models. Don't seem to be the quality that Warfare1 has shown, but, different models and colors none the less.

Warfare1 -> RE: new wargame "War across the Pacific 1941-1945" (6/5/2005 12:36:00 AM)

Ok, good news.

I found a place where I can host the civ2 graphics.

So, over the next few days I will be updating the civ2 default units file. I will be adding new graphics, and I will then be tweaking the artwork a bit. I like to have things just so [;)]

When everything's done, I will put together a package of graphic files that will give a nice facelift to that 1996 game many of you are still playing.

I still play Civ2 MGE, and the new graphics really make a difference.

Warfare1 -> RE: new wargame "War across the Pacific 1941-1945" (6/5/2005 12:43:25 AM)

Personally, I could look at artwork like this all day long. It is truly amazing what is being done for this 9 year old game.

A discussion about old graphics, String. [8D]

Warfare1, thanks, please let me know once you have that link. I'm looking forward to download these.

Nah, Eric and Marc hijacked it after my 3rd post talking about the cost of graphics. ;) This new game even without state of the art graphics definitely has the detail of a good game, will have to wait and see how it plays out.

Then Warfare1 came in with the CIV2 graphics after I stated that it didn't have state of the art graphics by todays standards, but, is still a highly praised and still played game. Proving my point it doesn't take state of the art graphics to have a great game. Just great gameplay with longevity. ;)

Hanal -> RE: new wargame "War across the Pacific 1941-1945" (6/6/2005 12:06:57 AM)

I stand corrected...your cost analysis topic appeared because the original WatP topic was played out.....then the Civ2 graphics took over because your cost cost analysis topic was played out.....now I understand....[:D]

ilovestrategy -> RE: new wargame "War across the Pacific 1941-1945" (6/30/2005 10:40:44 AM)

I'm not really worried about the graphics, I go for gameplay. I'm currently playing Grigsby's World at War and those graphics are plenty enough for me. If sacrificing the graphics for a good wargame will lower the price for a financially challenged person like me then I'm all for simple graphics. Rome total war with it's fancy graphics is $50 at my local best buy, Gigsby's WaW is $40. Guess what this poor person bought. Heck, even a detailed game like Hearts of Iron II is only $40 also. I'm too poor for Witp though [:(]

-Actually you will save money with WiTP. The game is so addictive that you won´t buy a new game for months.....

I don't think it's the fact that it's so addictive as much as I think it's the fact it would take a YEAR for me to play out on game. heh I don't like monster games that take months to years to finish one game.

And to the above above poster if you check out ebay you can find all those games you mentioned for near half those prices or less. RTW is around $20ish dollars now, Hearts of Iron 2 also. Check out Amazon.com too for reduced "used" pricing. It's a waste of cash now to buy retail/retail for most games. They are on ebay in a matter of weeks to a couple of months for 1/2 price. "Imperial Glory" sold for a whopping $5.91 on one auction. And I picked up "Railroad Tycoon III, Locomotion, and Warlords IV" all under $10 total from there. Last year got "Eric Youngs Squad Assault" for .99 cents. "Used" is the way to buy games nowadays, they have so little depth and play value anymore people are just unloading them so they can buy what they think is the next greatest game fix, that most often turns out to be just like the last. lol

First time I have heard that a Wargame has to much depth [8|]

I pefure not to by pirate software on Ebay. I don't buy a lot of games, maybe 4 a year. But when I do I reward the developer and publisher. Not some lame a$$ making a profit off someone else hard work. Hell yes their going for 5-10 bucks, why not its all profit to the pirate.

And yes we all have read your position on this issue many times over [>:]

Sorry bud, but, this is where you don't know what you are talking about. These games come with a box, english manual, cds and cd keys. These are not your CD only from overseas type games. They are "used" games that people found the games sorry or played them and just like with video console games unload them for a reduced price so they can buy something else. I just happen to capitalize on "used" games and these people who want to unload them dirt cheap. If they don't come with a box/manual then I don't buy them from ebay. Just because I save money and you don't doesn't make me a pirate, though I could all too easily just jump on that train as well. There is nothing wrong with buying "used merchandise", there are book stores full of used books, I guess those bought are pirated as well eh? And I guess just "renting" a console game instead of buying it is piracy as well, yes, I would think so, that's not supporting the publisher or developer either is it? What a rediculous notion. Grow up.

Unfortunately Andy11 just spams this site here and elsewhere and provides nothing else except the occasional and lame "Check this out!", so you will not get any information out of him....[8|]
