Here's something most of us should be aware of regarding thinking you're safe with alternative browsers.

PCWorld are a Joke..........simple as that..........I wouldnt take any advice from them in anyway.........a good company for PC newbies maybe but apart from that they can go jump.

That article just states the obvious really. If you don't keep on top of internet security you're vulnerable .... but then that's just common sense isn't it?

At least with Firefox you know immediately when there's an update available whereas with IE you have to go looking.

From most of the guys I've ever seen that have commented on alternative browsers, they display the naivete about being invincible or some such. I'm sure they would also find it hard to believe that not updating a browser they don't even use could bear any security risk at all. Sorry I didn't bring up a sophisticated enough source for you guys, but I never heard of IE being reached through an alternative browser. Reliable source or not, the article presented seems plausible to me.

I don't think anyone really has any illusions that Firefox, for example, is any "safer" than IE. I use it partly because I think its a better piece of software (which may well change with the next IE release, for all I know) and, daft as it may be, I like to do my little bit towards preventing total M$ domination of the world [:D]

I don't think any of us regard the article as implausible, just that it's nothing new. I use Firefox because it's a better piece of software - I find IE quite cumbersome by comparison. The important thing is to stay on top of your net security by keeping your software up to date. Sadly, many users don't (and that includes large companies!).

I use Firefox and the only smugness I may have shown is its faster than IE.

However how can I be smug over something that is free and anyone can use?

Wonder how much microsoft paid for that piece :) Im not smug and I dont just use firefox for security reasons I use it cause its vastly superior to IE.
