Griswel -> TFs won't deliver troops (5/28/2005 11:35:47 PM)

New to the game, I am playing the Tutorial and trying to take Saipan.

I have two new Transport TFs with Saipan as the target, loaded with troops.

One, now the other, arrive 2 hexes SE of the island and just sit there. It was three days for the first and two so far for the second before they send their troops. The CVs covering them are having fun, but I'd really like for my troops to be delivered more quickly than this.

Saipan was invaded by the troops sent during the tutorial, though the additional men I sent to die in transports near Saipan didn't help. My TFs:

AKx5 Carrying 116 2 Naval Const bat (hmm, was thinking eng, may be the wrong guys to send?)
DEx5

APx7 Carrying 27th USA 3
DDx2 (damaged, but not that badly)
DE

Do I only send marines? I figured that Army follow up and Engineers would work once I had a beachhead. I checked the rulebook and don't see anything under groud troops or transport mission which explains this. Anything I am doing wrong, or suggestions?

EDIT - oops - I wrote when they seemed to never deliver, then when they delivered I changed question to delay, but forgot to amend the title.

What is your TF mission? if it is "cargo" they wont venture within enemy air range. You need to have them on a transport mission.

Do you have "patrol/do not retire" set for your taskforces. If you have "retirement allowed" they may not eneter areas where a threat is perceived

Yamato - thanks, but I did have them on Transport, this is it:

Ah, thanks. Yeah I had them leading some CVs so I was a little gunshy.
