Drake666 -> Arty Problem (6/27/2000 5:13:00 AM)

Will I looks like the new large maps dont like arty. Started wild bills big scenario and on the first turn it crashed for my opponant a number of times when he ended his turn and the arty started. Now that it is my time, I end my turn and his arty is crashing the game every time. Is this just us or is anyone els having this problem.

I've had/have these problems also. The crashes occur when there is lotsa arty and fast arty is on. A solution would be to turn sounds off just before the arty phase or maybe keeping the fast arty off (and possibly bore to death waiting the barrage to finish) Voriax

DId you delete the steel.prf file in the SAVE folder? That fixed it for the playtesters who had the problem..

Paul, I think it's an issue with fast artillery and the SFX. I use fast arty and when there's a bunch (like 10+) units firing, the SFX run over each other; one sound effect doesn't finish before the next is started. On my machine it causes SEVERE bogging...on another machine it could easily crash it.

I have the same problem with 2.0. My WW2 campaign crashes when my first artillery barrage starts landing. I have 3 155mm batteries only. I have deleted steel.prf. I started over - same thing. I'm playing Americans vs Germans 1/1944. I have Fast Artillery on and I'd really like to keep it that way. Any ideas? ------------------ Tuomas Seijavuori

Tuomas, Dean, in the 'reduction/enlargement of squads' topic below Mike Wood (all praise him) gives a list of fixes for 2.1 One fix addresses this fast arty problem by turning the arty sounds off during bombardment but letting other sounds play well. Btw, I wonder if we who have this problem all have Aureal sound cards? I've also noticed that whenever this crash happens or is about to happen my HD starts whirring like mad, like the game would not find a correct file. Defragging didn't help, unfortunately. Also just before the crash arty explosion graphics begun to slow up...the impacts became very slow motion. It was interesting to see in detail all the different frames needed Voriax

Problem fixed! Just deleting steel.prf wasn't enough it seems. I deleted it, started SPWAW, quit to Windows, THEN started playing the campaign. That did the trick for me. It seems a new steel.prf is created when you quit the game. ------------------ Tuomas Seijavuori
