I have 2 HQ unit in different places and both have as leader McArthur Douglas.
One is the USFFE HQ in PI, the other one is the South West Pacific HQ in Australia.

Is it normal ? I'm planning to evacuate the Mcarthur HQ in PI by sub. What could happen if i change its command to Soutwest as the Mcarthur HQ in Australia ?

It's intentional. When USAFFE HQ is destroyed, Mac will take command of SWPac automatically. Probably related to his famous/infamous escapade from PI by PT Boats.

Not to mention I hate the guy and will replace him when decent leader comes around [:'(]

BTW, if you want to evacuate a HQ from PI, evacuate Asiatic Fleet. It's Naval HQ and will help repairs in base it's situated. Lot more useful than USAFFE that's Command HQ. That is of course if Command HQs don't share the benefits of Naval HQs.

Cheers,

M.S.

Yes - this little feature makes it almost impossible to kill off Mac. i THINK you have to have both USAFFE and SWPAC destroyed to get rid of him. i guess you could try assigning him to some other command and get that destroyed, but since there are 2 copies of him, it makes it difficult. i've never heard of anyone saying that the leader bug has "gotten" him (although if it did, they probably wouldn't complain.)

Douglas "Die hard" MacArthur...
By the way, is MacArthur the american officer you see in the picture at right of each combat report during combat resolution ?
He seems an aged version of Bruce Willis, isn't he ? [sm=dizzy.gif]

Grotius -> RE: 2 different units with Douglas Mcarthur. Bug ? (6/10/2005 6:11:47 PM)

Yeah, cornbob pipe, that's gotta be Mac in the photo. Wish they'd given us Spruance or Halsey or even Claire Chennault. :P

Hornblower -> RE: 2 different units with Douglas Mcarthur. Bug ? (6/10/2005 7:59:16 PM)

Yeah I have a pair of Mac's too. Also I see i have a pair of Spruance's?!?!?!? One commanding the wasp/yorktown TF, and his identical twin commanding the Essex/Sara/Princeton TF. And i seem to have lost Halsey... [8|]

usersatch -> RE: 2 different units with Douglas Mcarthur. Bug ? (6/10/2005 8:19:34 PM)

Ahh yes, you have to love the guy that brokered the deal to get Unit 731 off scott-free from war-crimes prosecution!!!![:@]

kaleun -> RE: 2 different units with Douglas Mcarthur. Bug ? (6/11/2005 12:25:14 AM)

But he made sure Homma got hanged.
PS I don't really think Homma was as responsible for the death march as everybody took him to be. (Dodges incoming missiles)[X(]

usersatch -> RE: 2 different units with Douglas Mcarthur. Bug ? (6/11/2005 1:23:02 AM)

That was ONLY because the PI was his baby!

I have to give him credit though, he made sure that the japs on Chimi Jima got fried for eating the Allied POWs (described in the book "Flyboys").

kaleun -> RE: 2 different units with Douglas Mcarthur. Bug ? (6/11/2005 1:24:42 AM)

Yes. Read that book too. (shudder shudder)

Mac was a god. You can't kill a god.[:D]

They only fade away into legend.[;)]

Well, HE thought he was a god... "he was a legend in his own mind..."

I miss the leader bug thread [:(]

A lot of more or less gifted military leaders came equipped with god complexes: Alexander, Caesar, Napoleon, McArthur, Patton, Rommel, Montgomery and so on. And we still talk about them today, while more quiet, unassuming leaders like Bradley and Hodges fade slightly into the background.

Well - it still happens, but is greatly reduced in severity, and it appears to be at least partially self correcting. I had SE Asia HQ run by a Japanese fellow with a ground skill of 6 (iirc), but when i got enough points to fix the problem i found that he had been replaced by an appropriately ranked British general.

Halsey -> RE: 2 different units with Douglas Mcarthur. Bug ? (6/12/2005 6:12:04 AM)

Alexander and Caeser were gods in their time.[;)]

Later everyone else only aspired to be one.[:D]

afspret -> RE: 2 different units with Douglas Mcarthur. Bug ? (6/12/2005 7:05:06 AM)

Wasn't SWPAC formed after 7 Dec?
