aletoledo -> where are the base forces? (6/12/2005 7:32:14 AM)

I'm new and couldn't find this while searching.

after capturing a base, is there a way to generate a base force? it seems all the starting bases have permanent troops stationed there, called the ..... base force and instead of wasting my regular forces, I'd like to create these for my captured bases also.

if there is no such thing for captured bases, what does everyone do with their newly captured bases? do you repair them and then leave them unguarded or do you pick a relatively weak unit to stay behind for guard duty?

You get a constant stream of replacements and reinforcments as the turns go by. Usually from the continental US or Japan or Karachi for the British. In the case of the US you get almost too many. These include base forces as well as combat forces. You have to ship them to wherever they are most needed.

Assuming you are playing one of the long scenarios (15 or 16) you get base forces as reinforcements at your home bases (i.e. mainly San Francisco for US, Karachi for Brits, somewhere in the home islands for the Japanese.) The base forces are heavy on support troops, aviation support, engineers, but also can have AAA, CD guns, engineering vehicles, radar, etc. They show as engineering units, but not all engineering units are base force. They are usually called "base force" in the name, such as No. 101 RN Base Force, etc.

Of course, you can also move them from other bases as needed (i.e. Pearl Harbor, etc.)

wow, thanks for the quick replies!

I suppose since I'm only playing the first scenario (not the tutorial) as japan, this may be a factor. am I to assume that in this scenario all the base forces are locked down and can't be transferred? I look at the other bases "base force" and I can't load it up to a transport or set a destination for them to march.

also perhaps I haven't given it enough time for the replacements. I captured hong kong early, yet after one month its still bare of a base force (and I moved all the other units away to attack elsewhere). should I eventually expect to see something? its been one month since the capture of hong kong, geez how long do I need to wait?

I don't know about japanese reinforcements in scenario #1. But no units generate into newly captured bases. Wait as long as you wish.

I'd reccomend checking Pescadores and Taan, both should be loaded with units and there ought to be a base force or two in there too, which you can transfer into captured bases you wish to use.

Some units on both sides can't be moved by ship unless you use up "political points" to change their controlling headquarters. If you "click" on the name of the headquarters that controls a particular unit you will see how many political points it takes to change it to the control of another HQ. (Be careful - if you don't want to make a change - click on "exit", not "done".)

You don't need to put forces at bases except for Chinese bases - in China you can lose resources if you leave bases undergarrisoned. You would normally only put troops on bases where you expect to be attacked or in the case of base forces, a base from which you want your planes to attack from.

In order to tell when you will be receiving more forces (troops, ships or planes) you need to go to the "I" (Information) button at the left of the game tool bar and click on the various topics in the right column. You can, for example, select arrivals for land combat units, then sort by date of arrival on the screen and see how long it will be before your next units arrive, as well as what kinds of units you will get.

Good luck -

Dave Baranyi

I generally send 2 TF's when I invade....the assault TF and the garrison TF. I generally (as Allies) use the RCT units as garrison forces along with CD, AA, reg Eng units (Seabees, EAB's etc) and 'Base forces'..... those eng. units with Aviation support. You have to supply the 'garrison' which ever side you play.

ahhh, its making more sense now. thanks for the replies.

I see that the units aren't "autocreated" at the bases and will need to be moved into place.

I'm going to try moving some with the polital system and see what happens.

supply, whats that! :) thats the next big pahse of my learning. I've been watching how far I can get on next to no supplies (or captured ones). good thing its not a PBEM or I'd be in trouble. I like to learn from my mistakes I guess.

bradfordkay -> RE: where are the base forces? (6/12/2005 9:07:46 PM)

Short answer: not very far. Your troops will start to suffer with no supply. You will notice that more squads will change to disabled, fatigue will increase and morale will drop with no supplies. This is greatly increased in any location that is subject to malaria. As well, your bombers will not fly with low supplies at the base, so you will not be able to effectively fight the enemy. My recommendation: get a grip on the logistics fast. Your troops need those supplies.
