I have 6 IJN CVs and they will only launch a few planes for a naval strike. I tested this five times and fully rested high morale planes just sat. Move the planes to an airfield and they launch strikes. This is a BIG PROBLEM as the KB is powerless. I changed around the planes on the CVs maybe that messed up the program.

Are you sure the CVs haven't run out of sorties?

There is also a "bug" present that if there are not enough pilots for the planes present, extra sorties are eaten up, causing the number of sorties available to plummet. Avoid this bug by liberal use of the "get pilots" button. You can check the sortie # possible/available towards the bottom right of the carrier's info screen.

If you are low on sorties, you need to replenish the carriers.

There are also other factors that can effect the number of planes flying in an attack: target (planes don't like to attack LCUs), distance, morale, weather, leadership, etc.

I noted in the 1.51 beta fixes...

11) When the player turned off replacements for an air group on an aircraft carrier and there were fewer pilots than planes and the group flew a mission, it used ordinance according to the number of ready aircraft, instead of ready pilots. Fixed. Please note that there is not always a one to one ratio of possible sorties flown to ordinance points used. The mission type and ratio of planes flying to ordinance pointes left do modify ordinance points used and as ordinance points are reduced, the number of planes flying is also reduced, as the carrier captain tries to make what he has left last longer. If the number of ordinance points left is less than twice that needed for an escort mission, the number of planes sent is halved and if less than six times that needed for a strike mission, the number sent is reduced by one fourth. There is also a small variance due to aborted missions or flights.

Can someone please explain clearly what is taking place....

If pilots are less than planes ready + damaged + reserve are sorties eaten up? If pilots are less than ready + reserve....? Ready + damaged? I counted up something like 49 pilots to completely fill out KB...

The way i understand it that the number of available planes was used in calculating the sorties used. So, if you had say, 20 available Vals, but only 5 pilots, and flew a mission with Vals, then a total of 20 sorties would be subtracted from your "sorties available" number. Of course, only 5 Vals would have flown. Thus, the number of sorties would plummet rather quickly. I haven't had any carriers to play with (having drawn the "Operation Home Plate" card on variable setup, and having 2 carriers smashed at PH on day 1) so i can not confirm this...
