Naomi -> Matrix releases CoG (6/21/2005 7:44:33 PM)

Crown of Glory is scheduled to come out towards the end of this mth, so will EIA not be available for one, or two, years following the CoG release? Since Matrix may well not to let Nappy's left hand to strike at his right. :p

[:'(]

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (6/22/2005 11:26:28 PM)

Naomi:

We don't see these two games competing for users since the EiA fans will still probably buy EiA, we're presuming. There's room for many of these titles in this era and think that if anything, these games could attract more users for each i.e. If someone buys COG and finds that they like the Napoleonic era games then they may get EiA when it is released (Sometime in this decade before I die hopefully :-) ). There is no rule saying that you can only own/play one Napoloenic game so we're hoping to generate excitement for each game from each game!

Thank you

There's not? I'll have to check, I thought rule 10853.2003.187.26.5.C.2.b said just that! [:D]

Hanal -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (6/23/2005 12:17:25 AM)

As far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier...too much of the WWII thing going on anyway....[;)]

No, it was a rule 10853.2003.187.26.5.C.2.c

But it was overruled on errata version 2.24225.5 and rule 23324.655752.r.53374.argh [sm=terms.gif]

nukkxx5058 -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (6/23/2005 7:56:56 PM)

So few (grand-strategy) Napo games on the market (a don't know a single one in fact [:D] ). There is certainly room for several titles ... look at the millions of games on ww2 ... :-(

carnifex -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (6/23/2005 8:42:49 PM)

WHAT ?!!11! L'empereur not doing it for you anymore? I suggest nothing will satisfy you [sm=00000289.gif]

Naomi -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (6/23/2005 9:39:11 PM)

I liked this arcade Koei-made L'empereur. No idea why Koei stopped furthering this game to make a 21st-century version of it but has been always digging deeper into its Sangoku (the tenth version of which is a degenerating shadow of its predecessors). :p

I played that game to death on my 8 bit Nintendo and have been waiting for something better ever since!......[:D]

Hmmm... well , I'm afraid I'm one customer who'll spoil that theory, as now that CoG is coming out, I feel it knocks dull old EiA into a cocked hat. A grand strategy game made for the computer from scratch against a clunky old offering based on an old boardgame? No contest... [;)]

I've been following the progress of EiA for over a year and had every intention of buying it, if only because (as everyone points out) Napoleonic grand strategy games (or any Napoleonic games, really) are few and far between. But CoG just looks sooo much better and is free from the lumbering boardgame mechanics that it would daft not to choose it over EiA.

So only one game for me. Sorry. [:)]

The eratta, ahhhgg how could I forget[X(]

You are correct, the rule clearly states only one Napoloenic game allowed. Time for some house rules [8D]

Pippin -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (6/24/2005 2:58:00 PM)

NES? I thought that was C-64.

Anyone played Wargamer: Napoleon 1813 ?

It's opensource now so anyone with good C++ skill can improve it.

Wargamer sourcecode

argaur -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (7/1/2005 12:53:43 AM)

I played it and i loved it, but the IA was horrible, and you canīt play online. But in general it was an extraordinary game.

Roads -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (7/15/2005 11:29:59 PM)

Napoleon 1813 isn't a Grand Strategy game. But boy I did love it. If only the execution were half-way decent. The AI was dumb as anything, and it was chock full of bugs, but I loved it anyway. It would be great if it could be ressurected, but I suspect that's a very difficult task.

ahauschild -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (7/16/2005 8:48:45 PM)

I personaly like to have it all. I want a Grand Strategy game, that allows me to choose to resolve my battles on Army, Divisional, Brigade, and yes even Regimental level. The true flare and tactics for a battle in Napoleanics come actuly only to live in a Regimental level game, but they would be very cumbersome to play if you wanted to play out 50k or more troop engagements. That is where the Divisional and Brigade level would come in.

Overall Crown of Glory is not bad, some AI improvements are needed, but because it is played on Divisional level to many tactical compromises had to be made to reflect true napoleanic tactics well. I think maybe if they considered an addon, that would allow you to choose to go down to brigade or regimental level would be kewl. I certainly would pay for such an addon.

YohanTM2 -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (7/29/2005 1:35:44 PM)

I will definitely buy EiA when it comes out but am enjoying CoG. It will be interesting to see how things go. One of my good buddies is of the opposite mind. He will likely not buy EiA now (or at least for a year or two) as one from this era is plenty for him.

CoG does need some work still, but if it all gets worked out it might be a killer game.

NeverMan -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (8/26/2005 6:15:35 PM)

It looks like they have already managed to put out an update for CoG and are still working on the initial release of EiA.

Go Marshall, GO!!

ps. Next time you might want to get more testers or at least ones without families and wives and that sort of obligation.

Nice waste of cyber space carnifex, good job! Congrats to your original brilliance.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (8/27/2005 5:52:42 PM)

Neverman:

I wouldn't trade one of my testers for Bill Gates (For his money? Yep) but these guys are spending a lot of time helping me. Maybe if I were a better coder this thing would be done. As far as obligations? You may be right about the obligations? If you have pictures of me chained to a room full of desktops then I must tell you that I do still play basketball, swim, fish, build TIE fighters out of legos, play risk, stratego with my boys and LOVE it. I'm not obligated to do it BUT man I sure am addicted to it! Frequently, my 5 year-old will setup an ambush of little green army men on my desk and yea it does sometimes cause me to pause from some coding while I vanquish his forces of evil but it's all Goooood!

Don't sweat the small stuff .... and it's all small stuff!

Thank you

NeverMan -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (8/28/2005 4:17:19 PM)

No, I don't picture that and I certainly woudn't agree to anyone being treated that way, work is stressful and people work better under favorable conditions.

My point wasn't to be negative, but if the "testing" is going slow due to "testers" having obligations or whatever and "testers" are FREE, then it doesn't make any sense to NOT have more testers. Does it?

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (8/29/2005 4:36:04 PM)

Neverman:

The tester issue is always a difficult issue. Why do I say this? When a tester gets involved later in the process, typically their first finds or first issues have already been identified and addressed (Even with proper documentation this happens) because there is so much to digest at one time so what this does is force the dev team to double-back and readdress many issues thus taking more and more time. You must also factor in the element of coming up the curve on playing the game without a manual which also takes time. This is not a slam to a tester but just the way it is and what we have to deal with. This creates a situation where we must understand that while getting more testers may sound like it would speed things up a bit, it could actually slow the process dramatically so the new guys can catch up. Tough call...

Thank you

I partly agree!
Every tester has a different opinion. So the more testers you get the more opinios you get. And fullfilling all they want to be changed ist simply impossible....

BUT:
No one's talking about that. Give a preview to some betas and provide a web-portal for proposals.
In the portal you can have them classify the issue (like: bug / change proposal / different rules / etc.)
By this you can have all bugs by a simple mouseclick...
And you can ignore all the other stuff, if you'd like!

Of coure I'd like to be one of these betas [:D]

1LTRambo -> RE: Matrix releases CoG (12/2/2005 8:56:18 PM)

CoG is out and as soon as the game is upgraded later this month, I will purchase it. However, I will continue to wait for CEiA as that is the Napoleanic game that I cut my teeth on.
