Map Changes and Bug Fixes Abound!

Matrix Games and 2 by 3 Games (www.2by3games.com) are pleased to announce the release of the sixth post-release update for the acclaimed War In The Pacific.

This update focuses on some minor bug fixes and a multitude of subtle map changes to better mimic the War in the Pacific. The bug fixes number just over 20 fixes and changes to the War in the Pacific system. Some of the more important items include fixes involving the capture of enemy bases, the loss of experience when replacing large numbers of soldiers in a unit, and unit “all follow” commands. Additionally, there are 41 map changes that more accurately depict the war. They are all minor in size but may play a major role in forming new strategies in a few specific areas of the world. Special Matrix Games and 2by3 thanks to a dedicated fan, Andrew Brown, for these map improvements.

The v1.60 update is available online as a non-comprehensive update that requires the previous installation of War in The Pacific 1.50.

Based on the highly acclaimed Uncommon Valor design, War In the Pacific is an expanded and massive undertaking that has been recognized as another masterpiece from the veteran team at 2by3 Games, which includes Gary Grigsby, Keith Brors and Joel Billings.

The scale of War in the Pacific: The Struggle Against Japan 1941-1945 is 60 miles per hex and losses are individual vehicles, aircraft, guns and squads. Since half the planet Earth is covered by the titanic Pacific struggle, the game is massive in scope, covering thousands of ships tens of thousands of aircraft. Virtually every ship, air group and battalion sized or larger troop formation is covered in exacting detail.

You can download it from our game product page at http://www.matrixgames.com/games/.

If we currently are using 1.57 do we upgrade normally to 1.6?

michaelm75au -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 5:21:15 AM)

Hi
Yes
Michael

Jim D Burns -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 5:21:15 AM)

How will the map changes affect games in progress? Are bases moved? If so what happens to air groups stationed at a base that gets moved via a map change? What about docked ships as well?

Jim

michaelm75au -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 5:23:00 AM)

Hi
Bases are NOT moved if using the official map.
The pwhex changes only correct the underlying data for the actual map graphics.

Michael

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 5:23:25 AM)

No major map changes that should cause any worry or problems. Minor fixes and corrections that should be fine for games in progress.

Mike Solli -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 5:24:45 AM)

Thanks much.

TommyG -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 5:27:18 AM)

Where can we find a complete listing of the changes?

mogami -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 5:27:46 AM)

Hi, If you are going from 1.50 to 1.60 (none of the beta in between) 1.60 will also fix a few OOB data items. (The Japanese DP guns among others) This is the first patch that will update data for existing games. Prior patches require a restart to have database changes occur. Such changes occur during the turn resolution of first turn run under 1.60

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 5:29:02 AM)

Hi,

The list of changes is in the patch readme, which I've also attached to this post.

Regards,

- Erik

It was working for me...me, being the moron that I am, hit this button while Argonaut was in port...[:@]

Automatic Convoy Question

Version 1.57
Game 15
Japan vs AI
Historical level

From page 191 of the manual it states that no more than one Automatic Supply TF will be in transit to a particular base at any given time.

I'm early into the war in and I currently have 2 TFs heading to Legaspi and 3 TFs heading to Khota Bharu. I think the manual came with version 1.40 and probably hasn't been updated since then. Is it the intent of the game designers to adhere to the 1 TF in transit rule?

OK I'm using Subchaser's map. Do I need to restore the default map?

bradfordkay -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 8:42:25 AM)

If Subchaser's map uses a different pwhex.dat file than the original map, I believe that you will need to patch the game, update the save, exit the game, reapply Subchaser's pwhex.dat to the game and then reload your save. It's possible that you don't need to apply the OOB changes before reapplying Suchaser's pwhex.dat. I just don't know when the map updates are applied, when using Andrew's map, I have to hit the update OOB switch even after starting a new game under v 1.60.

michaelm75au -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 9:39:25 AM)

Hi
No. You don't need to restore the official map.
But you will need to save the pwhex.dat the patch installed as the "official" copy, and restore the pwhex.dat associated with Subchaser's map.

Michael

Apollo11 -> Matrix should remove word "BETA" from v1.60 ! (6/22/2005 9:59:54 AM)

Hi all,

Guys please note that when you log-in into Matrix Member's pages to download the v1.60 WitP patch you see:

"War In The Pacific" "War In The Pacific Beta Patch v.1.60" "22 JUN 2005"

The word "BETA" should be erased in order to avoid possible user problems/confusion!!!

Leo "Apollo11"

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix should remove word "BETA" from v1.60 ! (6/22/2005 4:37:36 PM)

Thanks Apollo, yes, that should have been done not sure why it wasn't. Correcting now...

carnifex -> RE: Matrix should remove word "BETA" from v1.60 ! (6/22/2005 6:30:40 PM)

I wish you guys bundled the patch readme separately from the main executable so people can read what the changes are before installing the patch (yes I know it's on these forums but it wasn't until someone asked for it).

Yank -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 7:53:57 PM)

Forgive me, I'm a bit of a dunce with this stuff...[&:] If I understand Mogami's note correctly, in order to get the full benefit (including all OOB changes) from v1.60, then I need to do that from a clean install of v1.50 with no beta patches in between.

I'm currently running v1.51 beta. Will I have to reinstall WITP, upgrade to v1.5, then go to v1.6? Or can I just revert to v1.5 by rerunning that patch executable / install file over the top ov v1.51?

Thanks.

Mr.Frag -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 10:44:02 PM)

No, just install 1.6 on top of what you are running if you were 1.4 or higher.

Yank -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/22/2005 11:16:42 PM)

Thanks Frag! That's easy enough even for me...

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/23/2005 1:16:29 AM)

Note: What Frag meant to say was "v1.5 or higher". At least, as far as I know that's the case. If you had any of the v1.5x betas or were up to v1.50, just install v1.60 on top.

Regards,

- Erik

Mr.Frag -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/23/2005 1:32:11 AM)

Yea, getting old ... Funny, the readme listed 1.5 fixes ... I asked Erik to fix it, but got it stuck in my head [:D]

Damien Thorn -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/23/2005 5:46:29 AM)

6) Land units with an existing fragment located somewhere were being allowed to divide. This caused a swap prime unit function to be called, when the units recombined. Fixed. Land units may no longer divide, if a fragment of that unit exists.

Does this mean that id I have a land unit (not divided) and I load up a few squads onto a ship that I can't then load up more squads from this unit onto another ship next turn? I really hope it doesn't mean that.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/23/2005 5:48:49 AM)

Doesn't mean that, it means that you can't use the "divide unit" feature.

They put it in the main folder in some file called something like 'changes'. They just keep updating that file with every patch (6/21 date).

Cmdrcain -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/23/2005 1:01:39 PM)

I picked up 1.60 Beta other nite, is the final 1.60 any different?

[:D] Or you decided it was good enough and smply renamed hours later the file?

Halsey -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/23/2005 2:02:27 PM)

I will say that the game seems to be running faster now. An extra bonus.[;)]

It is a different build and does not expire which the beta does.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix Games Releases War In The Pacific v1.60 Update (6/23/2005 5:29:40 PM)

No, no - it's the same. That was a naming error. There was no 1.60 beta (v1.57 was the last beta) it was 1.60 final but our web guy forgot to change the label. When I woke up and saw Apollo's report, I removed the "beta" from the name.

- Erik
