grab -> Ver 1.04 (6/24/2005 10:50:41 PM)

I have installed version 1.04 but the scenarios are still Freezing up during game play. The only way I can then get out of the game is to do an emergency shut down as the usual ctrl, alt, del is frozen out.

My system is:

Pentium 4, 3.06mhz processor

Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, build2600)

512 mb RAM

Directx 9.0c

Radeon 9200 with display mode set to 1280x1024.

Gary,

Are you saying you are still seeing the quadrant message?

CapnDarwin -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/25/2005 12:14:08 AM)

Gary,

What service pack do you have installed for XP?

grab -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/25/2005 12:32:19 PM)

Hi Erik,

No I am not getting the quadrant error message. In fact I am not getting any error messages. The game just freezes during play and locks up the whole PC.

grab -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/25/2005 12:33:02 PM)

I have service pack 2 for XP installed.

CapnDarwin -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/25/2005 4:51:09 PM)

grab,

Is there a FPG_Report.txt file in the Flashpoint folder? If there is can you post it for Rob to look at.

Thanks.

grab -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/25/2005 8:20:25 PM)

I've check through the FPG directory. There is no FPG_report.txt file.

CapnDarwin -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/25/2005 11:47:11 PM)

grab,

Have any other games given you a problem? I know I've steared clear of XP's service pack 2 on word of some games not working right. I have both an XP Home and XP Pro machine here and I've not had that issue. It may be something loaded in your tray or behind the scenes clashing too.

What scenarios in particular are a problem? Can you save a game just as it slows down so Rob could look at it? Was 103 running fine?

We'll keep plugging to get an answer.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/26/2005 12:01:13 AM)

Grab,

Can you please post a DxDiag file for us? See the pinned instructions in this forum.

Regards,

- Erik

Here is the DxDiag file.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/26/2005 12:33:49 AM)

Gary,

Your video driver is from 2003, your sound driver from 2002. Can you please grab the latest driver from www.ati.com for your video card and see if there's a newer audio driver as well? The drivers you have pre-date the latest DirectX and an upgrade may well solve all your issues.

I'm also concerned about this section:

DDraw Status: Disabled
D3D Status: D3D v7 or earlier apps disabled, D3D v8 or later apps enabled

Have you had any problems with other games?

Regards,

- Erik

Erik Rutins -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/26/2005 12:35:11 AM)

You might want to check for newer chipset drivers as well, as yours are from 2003/2004.

IronManBeta -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/26/2005 1:57:46 AM)

You have a nice system and it should run fine. I remember having occasional problems with the very first Radeon card by ATI but none since then. Which scenario in particular is locking up and what is the exact game time? Was this you verus the AI? This might tell me if the failure happened while the AI was running it's routines. Just a shot in the dark. This sounds like an endless loop more than a crash since there is no fpg_report.txt file generated.

Any extra little detail you can give us might make the difference.

Thanks, Rob.

Guy's

I have updated my video drivers. It seems to have fixed the freeze problem. I have been able to play A Few Good Choppers through to a conclusion. Thanks for your help and time.

Gary

grab -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/26/2005 11:33:14 PM)

Sorry guys bad news. I tried Scen 4 A Few good Tanks and the whole PC froze again.

The Freeze happened during Turn 6 Resolution. The game time period was 12:40 to 13:00 and the freeze occured at about 12:50 game time. A the point of the freeze combat had just happened between US 3/B tank Pl and a Soviet Mech Co.

I do not have a freeze problem with anyother game on my PC.

cheers

Gary

IronManBeta -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/28/2005 3:21:36 AM)

Hmmm, I did not realize it was failing in the middle of a turn resolution. The AI is not due to kick in until 1 p.m. so that can't be it.

Exactly a year ago I had this problem and it turned out to be a missing sound file for one of the units that I had just added in. We have not touched this scenario in a while though and even if a wav file is missing it just skips over it now and carries on.

This is another shot in the dark, but can you run the game in 'q'uiet mode for me? Just type the letter Q during turn resolution and it will skip through a lot of the sounds and animations. If that makes a difference then this would give me a clue to work with.

Cheers, Rob.

grab -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/29/2005 12:49:23 AM)

Rob,

I'll give it a try

Gary

CapnDarwin -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/29/2005 3:24:39 AM)

grab,

Can you also post your new DxDiag file too. There still may be something lurking in there too.

grab -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/30/2005 11:51:39 PM)

Here's my latest Dxdiag file

Gary

grab -> RE: Ver 1.04 (6/30/2005 11:53:31 PM)

Rob,

Due to work its taking me longer than I would like to work through the sceanrio A Few Good Tanks in Quiet Mode. However sofar I have reached game turn 14 and all has been well.

Gary

grab -> RE: Ver 1.04 (7/1/2005 12:17:57 AM)

Rob,

Using Quite Mode I have now been able to play A Few Good Tanks right through to a Nato Decisive Victory on game turn 16. This is a first for me with this scenario which has in the past always frozen around the eighth to tenth turn.

Gary

IronManBeta -> RE: Ver 1.04 (7/11/2005 1:37:29 AM)

That is good news Gary. Any further developments since June 30th? I am still really concerned about this. We had a somewhat similar problem with Windows 98SE but never with XP.

Have you tried any of the other scenarios yet?

Thanks, Rob.

grab -> RE: Ver 1.04 (7/12/2005 1:03:54 AM)

Rob,

I have now run the following scenarios using Quiet mode.

A Few Good Tanks
A Few Good Choppers
Agincourt Revisited

All have played through to a conclusion. No freeze problems with them.

Gary
