nukkxx5058 -> TCP/IP doesn't work ?? (6/28/2005 9:54:40 PM)

Hi, I am posting here now because I didn't find a satisfactory answer in my previous posts about TCP/IP (in support section).

Who could ensure here that this online game mode really works ? who did start and complete a full game ?

Thanks in advance for testimony.

Hey Nukkxx, I posted a reply to Emblis on this topic late yesterday in the support forum and you should take a peek at it.

Basically, yes, it works just fine *but* you have to be able to get through your own firewall first. This is true for any game that uses the DirectX DirectPlay commands that I know of. When Erik and I played he was a wiz and moved his machine into a DMZ to host the game. I could probably do that with some studying and deep thought but I was happy to let him do it at the time.

This might be a good opportunity though to build up some collective experience on the topic. Read my other reply first though so that we can tackle it in stages.

Question: do you have two machines networked together inside a firewall by any chance? Step 1 is to do TCP play on a single machine. If that works then you do it on two machines networked but not across a firewall. Step 3 is to get across a firewall to the outside world. Step 1 is described in my other post.

Cheers, Rob.

Well, I am not a specialist of firewalls and networks ....

What I can say is that when I tried to play TCP/IP, i even tried to shut down my firewall so the problem should be elsewhere.

In fact, I wonder if it is not caused by my ISP which is a commercial LAN (I'm in Bulgaria and there are lots of commercial LAN seeling connections). In fact, I don't know what to ask the LAN admin ? What ports should be open in THEIR firewall (I suppose the LAN is behind a firewall? That would actually be a good explaination why FPG doesn't work in TCP/IP. (and I noticed I have a similar problem with CoG). One last remark, all other application run normally (icq, msn, some other games, etc.).

Any idea ?
