gunner333 -> ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/2/2005 5:10:51 AM)

After 1.6 all my attemps to get unit all together in the enemy's hex fails. My units dont arrive at the same time. Also I get ghost unit all the time when I trying use "all follow" command. Head unit(the unit that other units ordered to follow) makes his clone in the hex he was stationed and in the hex where he headed.
I fight intensive land war in China so I have a lot of chances to see this bug.

Vanila WITP1.60(started under 1.50), PBEM game, scenario 15. Japanese side.

Please help. Thank you.

Ditto for me.

What is "ghost unit" ?? How do I tell if I have that !?

witpqs -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/2/2005 6:48:35 AM)

What I saw was this (see if I remember this right, I fixed it by moving the unit to its doppleganger - or was it the other way around[&:]):

In one hex you see the unit listed on the mouse fly-over. However, when you select the hex the unit isn't there! Not on the menu bar (bottom of acreen), not on unit menu (separate panel).

In another hex you see the unit listed on the menu bar at the bottom, you can select it and give it orders. It does not appear on a mouse fly-over.

Just thinking out loud, I wonder if this is related to those split up/teleporting/ghost units that some people saw in PBEM after the recent upgrade?

jwilkerson -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/2/2005 7:11:46 AM)

Ok, well we only saw things like that when our pwhex.dat file was wrong.

FOLLOW command has rarely been useful for me from day one ... trying it some now - will see if any better in 1.6 ...

Hello.
Is it possible to fix pwhex.dat file?

Mr.Frag -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/2/2005 6:17:53 PM)

No, it is specifically related to the Follow command where the leading unit gets it's location set to two hexes at once, showing as moved where it really hasn't. You can fix this by telling the unit to move on top of the fake version of it and be all better. When you select the fake version of the unit, it will actually select the real one which is in a different hex.

Thanks, what about coordination of all units which was ordered to follow up. I cant make all my units to arrive at the same time. Every time it is like this, Day one: Unit which other units was ordered to follow arrives at purpose hex and Day two: Units that was following arrives. I am OK with it most time, but if your attacking across river this means sacrificing one unit which gets to place first. Is it feature or bug?

michaelm75au -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/2/2005 6:45:09 PM)

Hi
is the destination a base or a non-base hex?

I have noticed that sometimes the lead unit will advance over a river into a enemy non-base hex, while it will wait for the others when crossing river into a enemy base hex. [Ignore the ghost icon which shows up in v1.6 as it does not represent the actual unit]

Michael

I am talking about enemy held base hex.
By the way its OK to ignore ghost, right. You mean that after all everything gonna be OK? I mean all units arrive at the same time?

Mr.Frag -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/2/2005 7:00:33 PM)

The ghosted unit is not real. The problem is that it cancels the move order for that unit which means all the other units are now doing the follow apart from that one (it thinks it is already there).

This appears to only be happening when moving into an enemy base hex as michael has said.

not a perfect solution, pick the smallest unit you have to lead the follow as it will not get there with the rest of the units. Every other unit will move at the same time, leaving this one behind in a hex.

Do NOT pick an HQ unit to lead as HQ units can not cross rivers unless there is already a unit on the other side.

Once the core group moves, you can go back and get the silly one that stopped to catch up.

I see. I will try it. Thank you Mr.Frag.

Yeah, but which one is the ghost and which one is the doppleganger? [X(]

Thanks for confirming the work-around.

Just canīt believe the follow LCU order is broken for so long. FIX BREAK FIX BREAK [;)]

The real one will be exactly 1 hex behind the fake one, so if you know where the unit was moving, should be easy to spot.

ChezDaJez -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/6/2005 11:46:32 PM)

See my posting under 1.6 Land Combat Problem on the main WitP forum for the details.

My question is this: Does the opponent see the ghost unit or the real unit? If he sees the ghost unit and attacks it, will the real unit take damage?

My situation has the 55th IJA Inf Div being displayed in hex 34,28 which is also occupied by the enemy. But according to the LCU screen (accessed from the top of the screen), the 55th is in hex 33,29 (which shows as empty on the map).

This unit had never been issued a "Follow" order and is simply marching inconjuction with the 33rd IJA Inf Div (the 55th moves a little faster than the 33rd).

Chez

Mark VII -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/7/2005 4:29:19 AM)

Yes, according to my opponent, he could see the ghost unit I had a couple of turns ago. Don't know if he had the option to attack it though.

ChezDaJez -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/7/2005 11:07:38 AM)

Thanks for the reply. I figured that the ghost could be seen.

My assumption is that the opponent can not attack it for the same reason I cannot attack.... the unit isn't actually there yet.

Chez

michaelm75au -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/7/2005 11:17:59 AM)

Hi

You can only attack it where it "actually is". If you were playing against AI, the option to order an attack in the "ghost" hex would not be highlighted.

Michael

joey -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/8/2005 12:52:54 AM)

I particularily like the part about fighting ghosts. Is this a game or a poligueist movie we are talking about? Am I the only one that finds this thread in and of its self-- strange?

afspret -> RE: ALL FOLLOW...bugged (7/9/2005 7:59:36 AM)

I haven't gotten ghost units, yet, but I clicked on the 22nd Aus Inf Rgt in Mersing and order it to move to Johore. I then clicked "Set All To Follow" so the 21st and an RAF Base Force would move as well. On the next turn the 21st and the RAF BF were shown as moving 31 and 30 miles but the 22nd was shown as moving "0"! Since some Sons of Nippon are already attacking Johore, I'm hoping the 21st and the RAF BF will get there before it falls, but I'm facing the possibilty of having the 22nd cut-off. I've already had all the LCUs that were at Kota Bharu cut-off when they jumped from a road hex to a jungle hex after they were attacked by some Sons on the way to Kuantan.
