ojnab_bob -> How do you disband army units? (7/3/2005 10:05:37 PM)

I can't figure that out, nor can I figure out how to transfer troops between divisions; my army is eating me out of house and home!

Any help is appreciated; really enjoying the game so far.

One thing that will help: got to each army and corps and click the wagon button to a sheaf of grain button. This will make the army/corps (and all units in it) forage instead of buy supply.

I don't know how to disband armies or corps.

You cant disband armies.

To transfer, make sure they are both in the same area, hit the Province View and then click on the 'men' icons on the unit you wish to transfer out of. Then click on the unit you want to tranfer into. It should give you a slider for how much strength to move.

If you follow Uncle_Joe's directions for transferring strength out of a unit, then when it gets to under 1000 men, the system will disband it.

I normally put all my unwanted divisions into a low forage area - along with all my POW - and let them starve to death. [I have reported this as an abuse to the designer, and hopefully the patch wiull give me an incentive to do something else.]

LOL...thats pretty brutal...

Thanks, everyone, for the replies.

Ralegh, I hit on that POW-strategy myself after huge numbers of Russian POWs were really causing havoc with my money/food; accordingly, they all got a one-way ticket to a 40K forage area and a whole lot of attrition. It does seem quite "ungentlemanly"... [:(]

I have this logged as a bug - my suggestion is that VPs for a war should partially depend on the prisoners you have to return, and that letting prisoners starve should cost you glory - got any other ideas?

I'd like it to be a bit harder for them to be returned to active service though - perhaps released prisoners should be militia (because of poor equipment)?

I'd also like to 'disband' units and have them go back into the population.

You should also be able to re-patriate PoWs. That would give an additional bargaining chip in negotiating a surrender/cease fire if that particular option is ever added.

I think a "demobolise" action should be added.

Montbrun -> RE: How do you disband army units? (7/4/2005 4:17:41 PM)

1) a "Disband" option.
2) a "Prisoner Exchange" option for Diplomacy.

A substantial morale hit that gradually comes back over time (6 months?) seems reasonable.

A simple disband button with the population returning to the farm would be much appreciated.
