Admiral Pyrrhus in command on both sides it seems.

[:D]

He should reaffect him to a transport TF right now or something like that .. far away from the front .. if not dead of course [;)]

Oh sure, I can see the combat report now:

"Troops landing across the beach at Funafuti
Coastal guns are non-existent
10,875 casualties reported"

[:D]

cookie monster -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/5/2005 10:28:54 PM)

Looks like allies won. Although it depends upon the reason for the battle.

The allied CA is an auto replacement and DD's are ten a penny, depends on your game though how significant the result is.

Musta been a good battle to watch[8D]

Andy Mac -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/5/2005 10:33:19 PM)

Allies.

Most CL's were afloat at the end and the DDD#s were mostly Flushdeckers.

Likley all three IJN CA's will sink as well

Bradley7735 -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/5/2005 10:39:02 PM)

wow. Not 1 torpedo hit. I must remember to try for daylight fights as allies.

I agree, allies won. Probably 3 heavies to 1 heavy and 1 light on the cruiser sunk ratio. 5 to 8 on DD's, but mostly flush decker. At worst, it's a tie, which still means allies won. (Japan must win for a true win. any tie is really a win for the allies.)

Charbroiled -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/5/2005 10:40:15 PM)

Looks like a good site for future recreational diving (virtual, of course)

It's that damn Boise (Brooklyn class) that fragged alot of those Japanese ships...Something about 15 x 6"/47 guns...IIRC it's armored like a CA almost too, the reasoning for classifying it as a CL was the gun size though if memory serves. It displaced 9,700 tons, which to me is well into the CA weight catagory.

What a waste of good Japanese CA's, oh well...[:'(]

heard some things like that about that ship .. a good ship for a lot of people .. why not when I'm playing the allied ? [:o][:D]

SuperKing -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/6/2005 12:59:17 AM)

all of his ships sunk next turn, and I kept one CA....well at least something.By the way fdeutch,do you think Lady Lex will escape?[sm=00000613.gif](enterprise already gone)? My bet is two turns the most[:'(]& she'll hit the bottom

RUPD3658 -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/6/2005 3:01:10 AM)

Trading 1 for 2 as the Allies is a good deal. Japan gets few replacement ships as the game goes on while the Allies get more then they know what to do with.

I call this a victory for the Allies although the sailors on these particular ships may disagree....[sm=00000016.gif]

Yamato hugger -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/6/2005 9:39:58 AM)

Whoever was trying to keep the other guy from doing what he wanted to do won.

Speedysteve -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/6/2005 2:07:44 PM)

You sure it wasn't proton torpedo launchers on Boise?

They are deadly and I mean DEADLY [:D]

LargeSlowTarget -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/6/2005 2:16:15 PM)

Jeez, the Admirals in charge must have been an aggressive lot - looks like they were of the 'to the last shell' type.

Speedysteve -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/6/2005 2:25:31 PM)

Maybe Hitler was in charge for both sides?

"No retreat, no surrender. To the last shell. I don't care if you've been hit 45 times. Fire that gun."

Terminus -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/6/2005 2:32:35 PM)

"But my Führer, all our guns are destroyed! All we have left is this slingshot! Then fire IT, dammit!"[:D]

Speedysteve -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/6/2005 3:10:05 PM)

"After the slingshot close for ramming. Even if only 1 boiler is working properly. Close and then ram them. Then throw yourself at them"

Terminus -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/6/2005 7:16:44 PM)

"And bite them on the ankles! That's what we used to do in the trenches during WWI!"

God do I love a good shotgun. [:D]

fdeutsch -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/7/2005 12:23:14 AM)

In fact CL Boise and Marblehead escaped. CA Haguro and CL Java sunk from naval damage. Only CL Tromp was picked up by Nells.

If the is no other raid on Entreprise, she'll have no difficulties to escape. We'll see

I guess she had trouble after all,but now she's all calm & content with the fish,at the bottom of the ocean.[:D]

Tophat -> RE: Naval annihilation in 1941 (7/7/2005 6:38:36 AM)
