kerguelen -> peace treaties (7/5/2005 9:59:48 PM)

I had lots of fun playing the game over the weekend and have some suggestions for improvement (for realism).
Nations shouldn't focus only on getting Provinces during peace treaties - often those are half across Europe - but prefer to take reparations instead or have enemy protectorates or conquered countries liberated.

I know I mentioned this already in some thread, but after a few games I think it's really an issue. In the beginning its fun to watch e.g. Austria rise to power, all the others get concerned, declare war and in the end everybody gets his own little piece of Austria. Then another nation rises and the whole thing starts again. In the end every nation has a share in all the other nations.
Maybe the liberation option in peace treaties should be used much more often and the goals of nations should focus on keeping countries independent from enemies as a kind of buffer. (btw does the message independent country x files a complaint because of transgression mean anything? It could give some other nation (those with good relations with x) a casus belli against the aggressor)
It should also be made much more difficult to annex a enemy core province (those with an enemy control -2 in target.txt) in a peace treaty.
