David Lehmann -> SPWAW MC1 BUG ! (11/11/2001 6:23:00 PM)

Hello everybody, I've got the MC1 CD with 5.3 version. The game crahed very often and it was really not possible to go on to second mission, everything freezes. I installed the mech.exe of the 7.0 version but despite this patch I cannot use ma mega campaign CD ... every time I click on the next turn button the game simply exits to main screen ... I am very disapointed ... do you know something to help me playing MC1 ??? heeeeelp ! David

David Welcome. Did you install the updates to version 6.1? I am still waiting for version 7 to come out. Once you have installed the updates to version 6.1 if you are still having trouble with the Mega Campaign there is a patch out there for you to try. When the game crashes are you then shown as Yugoslavia on the next mission? If you do a search for the "yugo bug" you can read alot about this issue and where to get the patch. Version 7 should be out very soon and should put an end to this. Hope this helps. let me know if you have any other questions. AlvinS

Hello AlvinS, In fact I installed the MC1 with the provided 5.3 version ... and upgraded it to 6.1 ... with both versions I saw the Yugo bug and other crashes ...
I upgraded to 7.0beta but now the game exits to menu every time I want to change turn ... David PS : I have SPWAW verion 5.01 and 6.1 without MC working without issue on my computer.

David Sorry to hear you are still having problems with the MC. If you email Paul Vebber he can email you a patch that might solve your problem. Also do a search on the Yugo bug to see what other people have done to solve the problem. Some people have tried different things with varying degrees of success. Hope this helps.
AlvinS

To David Lehmann: Welcome aboard.
Did you delete the "steel.prf" file in the "save" directory before upgrading?
If you are running Spwaw with Win2k or XP, did you turn c&c (command and control) off before playing? Bye

David Lehmann -> (11/14/2001 4:08:00 AM)

To Mai Thai : The installation was totally new, that is to say there was no steel.prf file. My OS is win98se and the CC option was set off for the test. David

Does it work if you launch directly from mech.exe?

David Lehmann -> (11/17/2001 7:05:00 PM)

Hello Paul, no sorry, I have tried to launch the game (version 7.0) directly with the mech.exe ... did not work ... when I click for the next turn the game exits to campaign menu ... I have also purchased MC2 ... I hope this one will work otherwise I will have two useless disks ... I cannot understand what is wrong ... Is my hardware the issue ? don't think so, with other games and with SPWAW without the MC everything is ok ... I have the following configuration : CPU Athlon 600 MHz
Motherboard MSI6167
Sound Blaster Live 1024
Elsa Erazor X2 (GeForce I)
Maxtor 7200 rpm 30 Go UDMA 66
DVD-ROM GD5000 Hitachi
Yamaha 8/4/24
connected to internet by ADSL modem Alcatel Speed Touch USB .... David

Since you got it to play (in order to get to the next turn button) then you must have a steel.prf file now in the save folder. Try deleting that. IF there is no steel.prf file, then that is part of the problem. IT should be created as soon as you start a game. Did you install teh MC to the same directory as a previous download version of SPWaW? Try installing it to a different folder. Other things to try is turning hardware acceleration off, placing your sound card in "legacy mode" (check your card specifics on how to do that - but try playing with all the sounds turned off first to see if that affects anything) try going back to 6.1 and see if that helps.

Paul Vebber -> (11/17/2001 11:33:00 PM)

David - I got some info that suggests your problem is teh combo of ATHLON chip w/VIA chipset and SOUNDBLASTER LIVE! or Audigy cards From a Gamespot piece on the new SB Audigy: Unfortunately for owners of AMD Athlon systems who use VIA chipsets, the new Sound Blaster Audigy cards have many of the same compatibility problems as did the previous Live! line. Soon after we installed the Audigy, our Athlon experienced audio and system hangs, background audio popping, and many crashes. Only a full upgrade and subsequent tweaks of the system BIOS stabilized everything. This may be more work and risk than many gamers are willing to bear.
