I see a blurb on the download site that SP:WAW should run on Linux. I am guessing that this is through Wine or something similar, but have not made any attempts of my own yet. I just recently started to play SP:WAW and frankly have become addicted. While my Windows box is more than acceptable to play the game, my Linux box is my primary machine. As such, I would like to get SP:WAW running there so I can stay in the heated area of the house to play instead of carting off to the unused bedroom I have converted to an orphaned equipment storage area. I would like to hear from other Linux users what experience they have had and any tips they may wish to offer so that I can make this as painless a setup as possible. I am running both Suse 7.1 professional and Slackware 8.0 current tree on the Linux box so let me know what flavour of *nix you use as this may also make a difference.

Here's a page about running it under wine:
http://www.ibiblio.org/sinner/Steel/linux_en.html I, however, didn't get it to work. It also won't work under VMWare because of lack of directX support. I am trying WineX now, we'll see how that goes. WineX is Wine with directX support. One would presume since it can run games like Codename:Hitman, it should be able to manage Steel Panthers. We'll see. winex can be found at www.transgaming.com

I got it running under Codeweavers Wine. Just remember to set your desktop to 800x600 and disable virtual desktop in XF86Config file. Codeweavers Website I didn't give it a good workout, but I did start and play a few turns.
